Mine was a buy one get one almost half off deal! (I know everything about that is politically incorrect....) I just wanted to explain why ours was high.

We haven't started yet and I'm getting a little scared now. We were really hoping not to go over 30,000 and were even really hoping to make it a little under.
We don't think we will be able to go to Guatemala even to do pick up since we have some family stuff that will probably keep us from doing that. So I guess that will keep it down a bit.
We better start pinching those pennies!!!! Becuase we sure aren't backing out!!!!!!!

wow...

The costs have really gone up since 2002. Our total cost with two trips to GC was only $24K +/- This poll has really bummed me out. Oh well, need to just save more pennies.

A good reminder to consider CURRENT costs. We completed our adoptions 2-3 years ago at the 28K-30K range. If I was in the adoption process now in 2006, I would easily add 10K to the estimate and the total costs would be closer to 40K. Everything has gone up - agency and program fees, govt. fees, travel, etc.

Even since a year ago, things have gone up. Our 2003 adoption was about 24K and our 2005 adoption was about 26K -- but no visit trips... even still, things are really on the rise, cost-wise.

Finally added it all up!

I participated in this poll 2 months ago, guessing that our total was roughly $23000 for our adoption that completed in Sept. 2005. I was close - it was $23009! I did a spreadsheet for tax purposes and here is the breakdown:

Agency fees: 17,979
Gov't fees: 1,222
Travel: 3634
Attorney: 150
Misc: 24

The agency fee went up last year by 2,000, but we were locked in at the lower amount.

We got lucky on travel. On our visit trip we were able to use my husband's Marriott Rewards and stayed free! On our pickup trip, we were able to use frequent flyer miles.

My employer has a legal plan I participate in, so the only legal fees I had to pay were the 150 for the readoption.
