Tubes for ears
On another thread that was started about Elizabeth's baby needing tubes it was mentioned that 98% of children adopted from Guatemala need tubes. I understand that this in no way will be scientifically accurate, but thought it would be interesting to see how many of our kiddos have or need tubes. I do see lots of posts about surgery for tubes, but 98% seems a bit high. So, let's see what a poll shows!
![]() I made it so that you can vote twice if you have more than one child. Be sure to do both votes at the same time! ![]()

I am dumb -- how would I have voted twice on this poll?

Not dumb at all unless we both are!
I thought the same thing. I had the same answer for both kids, but didn't know how to post it. Thanks for asking!

Well, you can't vote the same way twice! But, if you have two children and one has tubes and one does not then you could vote twice!
Clear as mud now? ![]()

Got it! Thanks for the clarification!
![]() added: Yes, one more unofficial vote in the no tubes, don't expect to need them

Well, then add another "unofficial" vote to the No tubes results... neither of my kids has or currently needs tubes.

Both of my children have tubes. Tyler has had the procedure done twice and Taylor only once. For both my kids it made a world of difference. A positive experience for both.

2 kids and only one ear infection ever between them thank goodness. No tubes now or in the future for us!

Thanks! I just wanted to mention that until Xiomara turned TWO, she had NEVER had an ear infection! Never! Then, since she turned two, she's had 5 in 5 months.

We literally just got home from the ENT. Both of our daughters need tubes and will have surgery on the same day, February 16th. :-(
Dylan is 19 months old and... Amanda is 33 months. :-(

wannabemom,
I do not think ear tubes are anything to worry about and this is coming from a Mother who's about to have two children go through the procedure. My girls have light fluid on their ears and a small tube is placed in their ear under anethesia. The whole procedure is a matter of minutes and we were told we would be checked in, procedure done, and sent home within 1.5 hours for both children. It is just to help the fluid drain from their ears to help prevent ear infections and to help their hearing if it is less than 100%.

wannabemom,
The tubes fall out naturally... they are very tiny. As the child grows, they come out by themselves. Don't let ear tubes worry you... the adoption journey has so many elements... don't let this one get you down. Many children have ear tubes and it is a very common, safe procedure. I would never allow my kiddos to have it if I didn't feel it was safe, if I didn't feel it would make them feel better with less ear infections or if I didn't think it would improve their hearing and speech. Hugs to you... don't worry!
