COC Help
Hello,
Has anybody recently filled out the paperwork for a COC? I am SO confused as to what is needed to bring with me. They are looking for a birth certificate or recored issued by a civil authority in the country of birth. Does that mean I am giving them his birth cert...the only one I have from Guatemala? What did you bring for proof of US citizenship? ANY HELP...would be appreciated. Thanks! Jenn

Everything that I sent with the application was a copy. If they need the original documents they can obtain them from the packet you turned in upon arrival in the US...............the mysterious brown envelope that you weren't allowed to open.
For US citizenship I used a copy of their US passport. Good luck.............I applied for both of mine in April 2005 and their STILL processing them. Actually, I received a letter in December that they transferred the app's to California (no idea why), so now I have no idea when I might expect to get their C of C's.............though I'm hoping before they go off to college! ![]()

Oh boy, I didn't apply for his passport. Why don't our government agencies work together? I have a court order saying he is my son (which means if both hubby and I are citizens he is to) and his NY Birthcert and Social Security won't take that to change his status. This process is so redundant!
Thank you for the info Lori! Jenn |
