Refinalizing an Adoption?

Was wondering if anyone out there refinalized their adoption without using a lawyer??? We live in VA...did not know if this made a difference?

I don't plan on using a lawyer to refinalize the adoption in the US, but then again I am a lawyer, but then I am not an adoption lawyer. In my city there is a help desk for the adoption courtroom, staffed by volunteer lawyers who are very helpful. I recommend that you research and find out if you have such resources available to you.

We came home with an IR3 visa and are just doing a recognition of foriegn adoption to get a US birth cert. The adoption specialist for our county told us we did not need an attorney and gave us a small packet of papers to fill out to file and finalize. Took about 15 minutes to file the petition.

What if we are coming home with a IR4 visa and changing his name?

I'd love to save some money if possible.

Dont Need a Attorney

Hi, I live in Mass and they just sent me the paperwork which consists of 4 one page documents and I had to fill out and have notarized and call 3 weeks after I sent them in and they gave me an appointment at the court house. The paperwork is so easy you could do it yourself. Any questions feel free to pm me.
