Need help with a Spanish or Guatemalan word my daugher is using.
Kimberly has been home about 5 weeks now. She has repeatedly used a word that we would dearly love to know the meaning of.
I will give it phonetically: moo-som-bay I know it isn't directly a Spanish word - tried to look it up and talked to Spanish speakers, unless the pronunciation is way off. I've tried to get her to say it to a Spanish speaker, and she won't. (I think it sounds like a Japanese food or something :-) But she frequently uses this word and gets very sad. She's clearly asking for something. Sometimes, we've been in the kitchen at the time, so I wonder if it's a food, but she has also used it in many other situations. I'm wondering if it was a brand of something in Guatemala, a pet name, or something we just won't be able to translate.

Maybe it's someone that she is missing.. Is there anyway to contact the Foster Family?? Could be a toy too.
I hope you figure it out, Kim |

Or it could be a made-up word ... don't be surprised if it IS! My nephew called everyone Kunana when he was two. Never did figure out what it meant!

I think it's likely really 2 words. Especially if she is putting the emphasis on the 1st syllable. The 2nd word is likely "me" which means "me" - so something me, like feed me, kiss me, hold me, pick me up, etc. Does she have any one gesture that she routinely uses when she says this word or words?

Jennifer may definitely be on to something. Help me or Ayudenme comes to mind too. Listening to my own 3 year old pronounce the Spanish words she learns watching Dora, I would be really hard pressed to figure out what she was saying if I wasn't right there watching it with her too!

Okay, my Spanish is bad, but could she possibly be saying "muy hambre." Which would be "very hungry" .
