Need some encouragement...

Dylan's had a cold the past couple of days and she woke up with a bloody nose yesterday. Mind you, we walked into her room and her face was covered in blood (scared us to death). I took her to the doctor and they said they were common as long as they did not happen often. So I stayed home with her yesterday and today.

She has been her happy go lucky, always smiling, always dancing happy baby girl.

At dinner tonite, she just started screaming and wouldn't eat. She does this sometimes and we figured she was tired. She fell asleep when Daddy was changing her diaper, which is NOT like her. She is one of those children that tries to get up and run during diaper changes.

We felt of her forehead and she was burning up. Her fever was 105.4. I have been through this with her so many times. I immediately got the motrin and got washcloths to cool her down. Her fever got up to 105.6 before it started going down. Now while this is going on, she wakes up and starts singing her very cute version of twinkle twinkle little star.

I know we just had a thread on quick to run a fever, but I am so upset. Every time I take her to the ER, they tell me it is a virus. This is about the 3rd time it has gotten this high. She is now at 102 and sleeping by my side. I know I will spend the night watching her like a hawk. My gut says it is just the same as before, but that never turns off the Mommy meter watching for signs of anything else wrong.

Has anyone else had a child like this? She is such a happy baby girl and it breaks my heart to see her like this. Her little cheeks are as rosy as can be from the fever, but she is sleeping so peacefully. Her fever is dropping, DH and I are checking it every 10 minutes.

Just needed my forum friends...

sorry you are going through this...
Dear Lord, please be with Resa, her husband and her little one. Please bring this fever down and give the doctors the knowledge to know how to help her find this problem. Give them a good nights rest and peace..
In Jesus Name, Amen
Doretta

(((Resa))) I'd be pretty worried too. Xiomara never gets fevers that high -- just the frequent ear infections. Sounds like your mommy meter is working really well. Hang in there! I hope Dylan feels better soon.

My best friends daughter was just like your little one Dylan. She ran super high temps and you would never even know it by her behavior. Its very frustrating but it is common in young children. Taylor even had a perfirated ear drum and never complained of pain. How do you take her temp? I use a quick ditital under the arm (need to add a degree) because the ear term. has always been inaccurate. If she will cooperate, the anal route is the best and most accurate.

Hope she is better soon,
Mary, mom to Danny and Ricco

Thank you so much Doretta. Nothing better than a prayer and if God works that fast, she is improving quickly (read below).

Shoshana, both of my girls are going to see an ENT on the 24th, nothing worse than those ear infections, thank you for the hug and encouragement!

Mary, when it gets this high, I take her temp the anal route. I trust it the most and she is really cooperative (which surprises me). Thank you for the encouragement.

Update:

My sweet little pumpkin just woke up and said "love Mommy." Then she started singing with American Idol... lol. This kid amazes me and that's why it is so hard. She's still at 102, but what causes these high fevers? She was getting close to 106... which I would have taken her to the ER immediately at that point (probably for). I feel like I can't leave her side. She is giggling right now.

Thank you all so much.

yuck!
what a high fever.
mira spiked a fever up to 104.2+ this past weekend and i thought THAT was high.
it went down after a round of motrin, and hour later a round of tylenol (dr. advised...)
that monday we went through a gazzilion tests blood, urine, even a catheter was used. as they could not find 'reason' for the fever ( you know ears, throat, etc.)
as all seems well it appears she just had a 'virus' too....

but, im with you....i want a FIXABLE problem! not a 'virus' that must run it's course!

i hope your little girl does better after the ent does his thing!

cris

I completely understand walking in to find your child with a bloody nose--it's terrifying until realize what it is, and even then...well, you've lived it so you know...The high temps are scary too. Sounds like you are watching her and doing all you can. I hope Dylan feels better soon.

Resa, just wanted to share with you when my son was 11 month old, he had his first high temp it was 106 yes you read right 106, we had to bring him to the hospital, they couldnt believe the baby had 106 temp and he was sitting up on the table playing with my keys. When I got him to the hospital it was at 105. They sent us home after lots of blood tests, when we got home he had a seizer, back to the hospital with him, they gave him a shot so he wouldnt have any more. I was so scared. He had some virus they said. Ever since then he has high temps, had a couple more since then at 105, I was told when they get temps that high, that they always could, and after they have high temps, that their normal temps could be low. Praying your little one feels well soon, take care.

Hope she is feeling better..I know when my son was in daycare he seemed to always be sick with something..Ana isn't in daycare and knock on wood she rarely gets sick..but I guess if she goes to school she will just catch everything then! Only time Ana was 105 was after the Prevnar vaccine..and..when they gave her a kidney infection when they straight cathed her..she was around 105 then..I also do rectal temps..If I do axillary I would add 2 degree's and oral 1 degree, if I am remembering correctly..

Resa,

My 15 year old was like that when he was little. He wouldn't have any other symptoms....just fever and it was HIGH!!! And, it was just a virus. He got this same thing every January for about 5 years.

Here's something to remember (but you probably already know this so sorry if it's repetitive): when you are trying to bring down the fever with wash cloths and other things, don't do it too fast or they will shiver. Shivering brings body temps up, so it will make a fever higher.

We also have had the bloody noses. I can't remember where you live; is it cold there? Usually the bloody noses come from real dry air. Do you have a humidifier? When it's really cold outside and the heat is running real high, I usually have a small humidifier in each bedroom running overnight, and during the day (when we're home) I have a kettle of water or broth or soup on to replace some of the moisture in the air. If you don't have a humidifier, you can set a bread pan with water in it on top of the radiator---that helps a little also.

You're doing great! Sorry she's sick, and hope she's feeling better really soon!

Lord, I pray for Dylan, that you would keep her safe tonight and make her well again. I pray for Resa too, that you would calm her and give her the wisdom she needs in this situation. I pray that you would keep both Amanda and Dylan healthy for the rest of the winter.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Bless her heart!

The way you describe Dylan acting is the way Sydney acted after she had a febrile seizure (seizure from a high fever and very common). Don't worry!!! Sydney was just out of it for a week or so. Mind you that Syd is a very active little girl and she just became tired and cranky. The doctor told us to expect that kind of behavior for a few days because the fever and seizure takes a lot of them. My family was so concerned with her change in attitude but trust me it was only temporary!

Sydney still gets the high fever from time to time but she has never had another febrile seizure.
