I'm debating co-sleeping w/Rayna (using a co-sleeper, not in the same bed) and was wondering if some of you had thoughts on the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper (mini and regular size)?
Rayna's nursery is not right next to my bedroom and I think I'll be a little nervous at first to keep her in there (even w/a monitor) Is this type of co-sleeping beneficial given she'll be almost 6 months old when I bring her home? Thanks!!! ![]()

Hey Earthmama. My sister in law loved her co-sleeper. There is a great deal of increased safety for the baby by having her away from your pillows and covers while she is essentially in your bed.
As for whether you need it, do you know if she is sleeping with the foster mother? If so, it is probably a very good option. Good luck! |

Co-sleeping
Sabrina actually transitioned to her crib from 4-6 mo. but then we went through a move at 6 months - 12 months and she co-slept with me in the same bed.
I actually love having her that close so I know she is doing ok. She sleeps well! Given that we have changed states, homes, daycare twice, beds ...etc... I liked having her with me as a constant. Co-sleeping is a your choice. I have heard so many arguments against it. And now that we are in the house we may transition her back to her room ( toddler bed) but I will miss her terribly. Because I used the reach over to make sure she was breathing she reaches out to me during the night and pats my face or holds my hand. It is so sweet! These moments are so hard to give up when you put them in their own bed. I especially love the comfort I have of knowing I will be so close if she needs me during the night. It is nice to get advice from others but you have to do what you feel is right for you and your child. |

We used a co-sleeper for my bio baby. Keep in mind that the co-sleeper is meant for babies who are not sitting up as they are not deep so if your baby comes home a bit older you need something that is safer.

Oh, I didn't realize the co-sleeper was for babies who couldn't sit up. She can't sit up on her own, but I'm sure that is just around the corner (she's 5 months old)
I just don't feel confortable having her in bed w/ me given the risks of suffocation. Perhaps I will "bunk" out in her nursery for awhile, until she gets more settled. After all, for me the co-sleeping idea is to give me peace of mind. I think she'll do just fine in her nursery. ![]()

Since it is for your piece of mind, how about a pack-n-play in your room for a little while? Or maybe one of the video monitors so you can see her as well as hear her? When my oldest son was born, we had a screen door on his room so the cat would stay out but I could hear and SEE him. (This was before video monitors.) Not necessary, but it made me feel better!

Actually, I have a co-sleeper (full size version) and it is a pack n play too. My baby is 8 1/2 months and we have never had a problem. Although she just falls asleep in there, and then I bring her over by me when I go to sleep.
We love our co-sleeper.

hey guys!
my little sweet one has been in a pack n play since she came home at 4.5 months...wait, she was in a borrowed bassinet for a month first as she was TINY! that said, now she is 10 months and has all but transitioned into our bed! the stinker! okay, it's me, she wakes up, fuses ("ahh, ahhh, nahhh!") and im like "im so TIIIRED"....and in she comes.... I would say that the pack n play is a great idea though! We have debated on when to put her into her crib (yes, she has one and a pretty pink room too....unused, but available!LOL )I do love the co sleeper idea and would have surely used it if it was for older babies. ....what about taking the one side off the crib and pushing it up next to your bed? anyone do that? ive heard of it, but dont know anyone who has actually done that. i hope your little one is home soon! cris

I plan on using these 3/4 size porta cribs. They can sleep on the higher level or lower when they can sit up. anna

We decided against getting the cosleeper because we knew our son would be sitting up soon after coming home!
We just moved his crib into our room. He was used to cosleeping with his foster family. Some nights he falls asleep in his crib. But most of the time he wont, and he falls asleep in my arms in bed, and I place him in the crib once he is sound asleep! ![]()

Is a Pack and play a brand of play yard? I just ordered a play yard. Is it safe for a 6 month old to sleep in one of those?

I think we are talking about the same thing. I am probably just showing my age. That is what they were called when my oldest son was a baby. Or maybe it is a regional thing. A collapsable play-pen type thing with mesh sides? (As opposed to the round fence type things that form an enclosure.)My older son slept in ours when we traveled from a newborn until he was 2.5 and wouldn't fit anymore. Daniel and Lauren use it if we have guests and need to get one of them out of their room. I would just follow the same guidelines as a crib. No pillows, soft blankets, stuffed animals, etc.

Thanks, Debbie. I just ordered a play yard, so maybe I can use that by my bed for the time being. I suppose I'll use that instead of buying a separate cosleeper.

I just searched for play yard on the BRU website and we are talking about the same thing. I always thought it looked really uncomfortable and hard, but all my kids sleep/slept in it really well. Then again, they also like to sleep on the floor. OUCH!

I just took a regular crib and put it next to my bed with the side off. then I could roll them into there when they fell asleep and could still have my own space....you have to use the cribs though that you can put the sides up and down on...not the new ones that make toddler beds... That way you can adjust their height.. not sure if you can do that on the new ones..
