I thought of putting casters on her nursery crib (there are notches for this) and rolling it into my room every night for awhile. But it won't fit through the door I had to assemble it in the room, I remember.

I assume if play yards are safe to play, they are safe to sleep in, too? I know people use these as beds when travelling.

I'll have a monitor, so hoping I'll get over my "new mommy" nerves soon and let her sleep in her nursery.

For us, we are waiting to see how she sleeps in the foster home. If she co-sleeps, then we are planning on trying a pack and play in our room. Since co-sleepers are for little ones, I don't think that she'll use it long enough to get it. I also don't like the idea of her in our bed. DH is great, but there are nights when I get an elbow right in my back (not great to sleep with).
If she sleeps in her crib in the foster home, I am planning on sleeping in the nursery on an air mattress. I don't want to be across the hall with a monitor at first either.
We want to see what she's used to and then go from there. I am trying to have a plan, but willing to be flexible based on what works for her.

We did buy one of the portable cribs that was referred to in one of these posts and it does work out great for older babies. We took it everywhere with us when our daughter came home at 4.5 months old. You use it the same way you use a regular crib, it is just more portable as it folds flat (as flat as it can fold).

I think I may sleep on an air mattress in her nursery, at least for a few weeks. I just bought a J.Mason play yard (pack n play)...it's not the fanciest, but was rated the safest by CR. Also, it's a little cheaper than the more popular ones. I went w/safety, however.

Maybe I'll put her in that in my bedroom for awhile after my back starts hurting from camping out in her nursery. Between that and a good monitor, maybe I'll feel comfortable to let her sleep in the nursery by herself soon.

I wonder if this is normal worries for a first-time mom? Both times when I visited, I got up numerous times during the night to check if she was breathing.

Definitely not first time mom worries. I have plenty of kidlets and still do the rounds in the middle of the night.
Even on the big ones! I will also have babies next to me in the bedroom. The portable cribs I bought are smaller then the regualr ones. They have wheels and will fit through the door opening. Let me see if i can find a link and send it to you. Anna

Definetly normal in my opinion! I have been a mom for 7 1/2 years and I still freak out of any of the kids sleep longer than ususal and have to check to make sure they are breathing. (And of course in doing so wake them up and then I wonder WHY I did it! )
