What happens if you move in the midst of an adoption?
Hi Everyone,
CAn anyone tell me what happens with your adoption if you move after you start the process? Let's assume you've already signed your POA... Do you have to get a new homestudy/update your employment verification? Are there any other records that are needed? Thanks, Shmouse |

We did this before and we had to have our home study updated. With this adoption our social worker told us to try and not move or have a change like a pregnancy else we would have to be updated. Sorry probably not what you wanted to hear. anna

If your baby is coming home on an IR-3 visa and you move before your referral, you must update your homestudy. After your referral, you don't have to do anything.
I moved while in Family Court. I don't recommend it because of the stress, but I didn't have to do anything. I don't know if the process is the same for an IR-4 visa.

We moved from MA to AZ after TPR & before finalization. We already had the child. Had to get permission from court to move, & had to agree to return for finalization. SW made request for us; we weren't even there. No problem.
MA referred our case to AZ agency so we had to wait for that to happen, them to contact us & set up another Home Study. Involved also a few visits periodically until finalization, as if we were still in MA. Very easy on us really...just doing their job per the law but also understanding that it was a bit redundant in most cases. It did take about a year total which is the estimate we were given at TPR. That's the way it goes, I'm afraid. Best of luck! |

Are you adopting again????
![]() I remember you from a long time ago ![]() We moved in the midst of our adoption, though it was when we were pursuing Peru. We updated our homestudy and whatever with INS and everything got mailed to Peru. Our sw took care of it so I don't really remember much.
