Re-adoption in Missouri

This is something I should have checked into sooner
We brought our little girl home Sept 28th
She came in on a IR4 Visa
We were told by our agency that Missouri recognizes international adoption (which they do)
Come to find out (I may be mistaken) that we are not eligible to do the adoption tax credit until we re-adopt
Is this true?
I have spoke with 4 attnys today
NONE of them have heard of re-adopting
The last one I spoke with told me I have to wait until we have had physical custody of her for 6 mos then petition the court for adoption he said this is a two step process
Does this sound right?
I don't want to get ahold of some goober that doesn't know what he is doing because apparently we sure don't
I thought the re-adoption would give us a Missouri birthcertificate listing me and my husband as her parents
Then we can do a name change at the same time
I guess we really misunderstood
Please any info will help

I would also like to know the answer to this because I thought Missouri recognized international adoptions as final so we would not need to readopt at all.

I live in MO. I haven't heard of any of the things you listed. ???????? Esp. that 6 mos. part. Have you called a lawyer that specifically deals in adoption? I haven't checked in to it myself.....but I have several friends that took the credit the year they brought their child home, and that on an IR3!
I don't know what to tell ya, except that MO does recognize the foreign adoption. All we are required to do is a "recognition of the foreign adoption."

MO here too. I was told we didn't have to readopt because MO recognizes the adoptions. Someone from the big list sent me instructions for getting SS#, BC and then COC. I think that was the order she stated. I have had people from other states tell me we probably have to readopt but those in MO have said no.

Good luck,

I have heard the same as Johnna, that you don't have to readopt in MO (we live here too) because they recognize foreign adoptions.

My suggestion would be to PM Foxl (Linda). They came in on an IR-4, I think she would probably be able to help you out (she's very good with all this stuff!)

I found this website which looks like it specializes in adoption attorneys. You can look up an attorney by state. Maybe they can help with your questions?
