Did you visit with your first adoption, but not with your second?

Anyone in this same boat??
We are sooo torn whether or not to visit Migel-(this is our second adoption)!
Even though its been a year and a half later, and EVEN though Meeah has been HOME for over a YEAR, I STILL cry when I think about when we had to leave her!! I get the same feelings rushing back whenever I think about it!!
So, that is one reason we are on the fence. Another reason is that I have IBS , and its a 3-5 hour ride out to the orphanage and I get VERY nervouse and anxieous in cars and new places, which triggers the IBS. And lets just say rest stops are few and far between in Guatemala...
On the other side, I made it through when we visited Meeah, I'm sure I can do it again. And obviously being able to see my child is a + .
So, did anyone not visit with there second and really regret it?
Or any words from the wise?

If I ever get to the point of a second adoption I will not visit. Not due to money but for the sake of my heart. It's great to hold your refered child and see firsthand that they are healthy, but I will use the same agency who I trust wholeheartedly and will wait until Gotcha day to meet my babe.

I didn't visit with my second adoption. I had four kids at home, one who was adopted at age 3 less than a year before. I knew I couldn't leave all of them twice, especially the 3yo who had such a very rough transition.

I picked up my 7mo old son this past August and it went just fine. I have no regrets about not being able to visit. It was right for our situation.

Good luck!

Ugh I hear you about IBS. No fun. I think you know what is right for you. I found all restrooms clean though. Do cary some paper on you. With our first adoption we did not visit due to $. With this adoption we did visit. It was good and I took my now teen Guatemalan DD along and we did a lot of traveling before we had the babies at the hotel. There were some things that came up during the visit that made it good we were there. So visiting was good for us I believe. I think for the babies it is disrupting to their life. I do not think you have to feel guilty about not visiting. It sounds like you know that your little one is in a very good situation. IBS can be hard to deal with especially in situations of foreign travel. Best wishes either way you decide. Hugs, Anna

I apreciate your thoughts and comments on this. Part of me definately feels this way too. It is very hard to leave your little one. It has made the wait so many times harder for me. Anna

Anna- Good point about disrupting the babies. I remember thinking "omg, she has had 3 days of constant attention, and now we are bringing her back to an orphanage with 60 other kids???"

I didn't visit my 2nd baby either, my first daughter was a little over 2 1/2 and I just thought it would be too disruptive for her. And I didn't bring her with for the pick-up trip either, as we were flying in on Sunday night and leaving G. on Wed. morning early. Most of the time we would have been in an airplane and I she would not have liked to sit still for so long in a plane. She also would have not gotten her regular naps in and sleeping at night would have been disrupted at the hotel. Also I have a wonderful daycare lady who offered to keep her while I was gone. So during the day at daycare was no different for her while I was away.

Best Wishes on your 2nd adoption.

We did not have the opportunity to visit our first from Guat. as it was not allowed by the attorney. For our second adoption we did visit and we loved the experience.

Thanks a lot everyone for your insight. I just think that if I go visit Migel, I surely am not leaving without him, and that just maaaaaaaay cause some problems!!!
