HI everyone. Well guess what Jennifer did today. She jumped out of the crib. Do any of you know a way to keep her in from jumping out of the crib. I am not ready for her to roam the house yet???? She is only 19 months old??

Has anyone tried those tenths that go over the crib???

Please any help will do.

My sisters oldest climbed out of the crib, in it's lowest setting, at 8 mos. (Just as she started walking!) She then got to sleep in her play pen until she was almost 3. Her play pen is one of the older ones, so it is bigger than my pack-n-play, but I have used it for a visiting 18 month old, & she loved being in it all night.

My son was climbing out of his crib at 12 months old..I think we put him in a toddler bed and for some reason he wouldn't roam around the house at night..though he was def. still up at night at that age..
Our daughter and I have coslept since she wanted no part of the crib..
I know you can buy a tent type of covering for the crib..maybe check on-line..be very carefull about checking out the safety features..we had a bad incidence where I used to work (peds hospital) where one of those tents came crashing down..

I have had my 3+ year old sleeping in her crib with a crib tent from One Step Ahead since she was 26 months old and climbed out. She is still not ready for a big girl bed (and tells me so herself!) and loves the tent and I feel it is extremely child proof and safe. I really recommend them. I personally feel she is much safer in there than she would be roaming the halls at night (and we just have too many stairs that make me nervous even with gates) and she just cannot fall asleep unless she is secure in the confines of her bed. She has some minor sensory issues and this is one of them and as long as she is happy in there I am more than happy to let her stay. She has a Dora the Explorer twin bed set up in her room and when she tells me she is ready I will let her make the switch but until then, the crib tent it is!

My son had a crib tent (the one from One Step Ahead) from about 18 months until we moved him to a toddler bed last month (at 28 months.) We had no problems with him with the crib tent...until he broke the zipper! He knew if he kept pushing at it, it would eventually open ...

Now we are having a hard time keeping him in the toddler bed...so we are co-sleeping almost every night.

Hope you don't mind me sneaking over from the Russian board. My little guy a.k.a. "Christopher the Wonder Boy" fell/climbed out at 13 mos. -- no way was he ready for a toddler bed or anything else! so I got him one of the crib tents. He loved it -- we called it his "Big Boy Tent."

Now little sister climbed out a few months ago, and the same day we got her one, so they each have one. They love them, feel very safe and secure in them.

Here's a picture of Christopher in his (in this pix, it's unzipped.) For us, they worked great. I had peace of mind they were safe and secure since I felt strongly they were too young even to be secured in their rooms (didn't want them up all night playing! )

Best of luck whatever you decide.

When I moved my 24 month old to his toddler bed, we bought an extra tall baby gate for his doorway. That way we can keep his door open but still keep him in his room. Our room is right next to his and we can hear every move he makes. He feels safe & secure once the gate is up and it really reinforces bedtime routines. Sometimes he looks at books or gets a toy, but he always gets right back in bed when the gate is up at night. I like knowing I can hear him and get to him quickly if there is an emergency of any kind in our home.

I have Dylan, who is also 19 months old in a twin size trundle bed. She would not sleep in her sister's toddler bed, so we got a low twin bed with a trundle underneath. Our intention was to roll the mattress out for her to have something to fall on... but she has never rolled out of bed. We have a tall gate on the door, so she cannot leave her room. We have a monitor in her room and can hear her if she moves around. She shares a room with her 2.5yo sister and it has worked well. Dylan is our wild child and there was no tying her down. She seems to enjoy her freedom in her bed and sleeps better.

It is definately time to move her out of her crib. We have one of the old fashioned, bigger playpens also, and they work great for naps and such.

Dante is 17 months and started getting out of his crib around 15mos. Twice we had to call the doctor after hours. Once he fell and caught the corner of his eye on his toy box. We moved it and lowered the crib.. The second time he bruised the whole side of his face along with his shoulder. So he said put this child in a bed. We went out and bought him a new twin bedroom set. We bought a gate for his door. We child proofed the room and it's been wonderful. He wakes up now and gets out of bed and plays with his toys in his toy box. Then when he is done and bored we start hearing "Mama" "Dada" . He is our automatic alarm clock. Good Luck.. the big boy bed has been the best thing for us.. We bought those rails from One Step Ahead because they fit a twin bed really well. They are longer than most rails they sell in the stores.

We Loved the Crib Tent

Eve,

My son, vaulted over the crib rail at 16 months. He gets into absolutely everything, so I got the crib tent, and it was the best money I ever spent! It did the trick, and he really liked it. We just stopped using it a few months ago, when he turned 3 years. Good luck!
