Friendship Bridge
HI,
I recommend Friendship Bridge. Friendship Bridge provides microcredit loans and educational programs to impoverished women and their families in Guatemala and Vietnam They offer micro-loans to Guatemalan women to start small businesses. I am involved in this organization and one of our members recently went to visit the circle of women that we support. The money DOES get to these women, it does make a difference, and helps poor women and their children. from the web site: Friendship Bridge is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that provides microcredit and educational programs to help women and their families create their own solutions to poverty. The man who invented micro-loans just won the Nobel Peace Prize. These types of loans are being offered all over the world to assist people. If any of you are interested in starting a circle in your area, please contact me or investigate their website further and contact the main office. |

I was just on my agency site and they listed an organization that helps the children and families living the the Guatemala City Dump. It is Safepassage.org.

This was actually posted by me last Christmas...2005
We gave the onil stove to my daughter with an envelope of pictures that the organization sent of the actual family receiving the stove. It was my daughter's favorite gift last year. She was able to see a visual picture of whom and what the gift actually was. My son's gift was 20 blankets, and that organization sent me a picture of the kids receiving the blankets the year before. Again, he was able to visually see his gift. This year, we are again going through Friends Through Guatemalan Adoption. They have several different "gifts" this year including a family garden along with the education and supplies for $50, a piglet for I think $75 (they sell this a couple months later for much more), and so on up the line. For $250, you can give them a watering system. I have found the organization to be very professional and honest. Ali
