Adoption Doctor
My husband and I will not be visiting and the pediatricians in my area are not familiar with international adoptions.
I've heard some people use doctors that specialize in internatinoal (or specifically Guatemala adoptions).. I've read other posts of people hiring another doctor in Guatemala to see your child. What would you all suggest? Any recommendations for a specific doctor? Any other advice on how I can reassure myself that the medical info provided in our referral is adequate and correct??? Thanks! We were lucky to have found a great doc in our town that is familiar with international adoptions and also has a large hispanic clientel (sp?). He is also very fluent in spanish and was able to translate a few things for us from Alex's doc in Guatemala. He is a great doctor. But before we found him we were considering taking Alex to an International Adoption Clinic about 3 hours away. I know there are many of these clinics across the country and they will review whatever info you have at referral if you want, even though you don't generally get much, and they will answer any questions along the way, and then see your child when he/she gets home. I know the clinic in our state is excellent. I did a google search for International Adoption Clinics and found a good list of locations. Check it out. Good Luck!

Dr.Montiel
We take our son to a pediatrician who has experience with Internationally adopted children but, doesn't "specialize" in that. However, I that if your child sees Dr.Montiel in Guatemala, you are in good hands. He is well known and kept wonderful shot records and exam records. My pediatrician actually knew of him. And Mason did not have to get any repeat shots, and is very healthy. I guess I would say, wait for your refferal and see which doctor your child has.

After I received the first updated photo and a video of my boy, I sent all of the information I had (his medical stuff, the photos, the video, etc.) to the International Adoption Clinic at Tufts-New England Medical Center (because it's relatively local to me). Dr. Laurie Miller is the director and she's pretty well-known around these parts.
Anyway, they've been great. They gave me an initial review like 24 hours after I sent them all my stuff and encouraged me to send them updates as I receive them, which I've done. They've been very responsive to my questions and very encouraging throughout this process. Anyway, there are lots of places around the country that do similar things. I'll PM you a list. For me, for the $200-250 donation, it's been money well-spent.
