Guardian in case of our death; spelling

I remember reading that "babybri" rec'd a k/o for not having a guardian mentioned in their homestudy (they did in fact have one named).

Do all of you have a section in your homestudy on your guardian?

Our agency didn't require this.

Were others k/o because of not having a guardian stated in their homestudy?

Our SW mispelled our son's name consistently throughout the homestudy. I asked her to redo it with the correct spelling. The second batch of copies I rec'd included 2 different spelling of his name, neither of which were correct.

I have heard of k/o for typos. Would the spelling of my 3 yo's name be a reason for a k/o?

I am wondering if I should have my SW redo our homestudy so that we have it ready to go in case we need it. What do you think?

Shelly

We are just starting our adoption process - so I can't answer all your questions. We were asked by our SW to appoint a guardian in the event of both of our deaths and it will be included in our homestudy.

There is a place in our homestudy report that states who our baby boy's guardian will be.

You know- I just think the whole thing depends on who you get for a reviewer and on what the reputation of your attorney is. In our case- we got K/Od for the witness affidavits- good manners clause- but the other clients at our agency went sailing through because they have the good attorney- whereas we do not- Same exact dossier, they still have not had another kickout for this! If it is easy to get the hs redone and not an extra expense- you could do it- but if it is I would just wait and see and if you know you have a great attorney I bet it will not be a problem.

Good luck!

We were also required to fill out a guardian form. Our homestudy listed the guardian and their family and how the social worker found that they would be able to take care of our child in case of death.

I would absolutely have the HS re-written/edited to reflect correct spellings of all names. That is their job! If you provided the information and told them it was spelled incorrectly they should fix it. Better to be safe than sorry.

Our HS also mentioned who we had designated as guardians. It was just one sentence and didn't name them but said we chose my husband's brother and wife as legal guardians. Good luck!!

Our social worker paid a lot of attention to the guardian section and said it was important. Also generally spelling of names etc. seems to be important for Guatemala. Not sure if that counts for your son too. Anna

My social worker also included info about a guardian. She wanted my sister's name, address, where she worked, her marital status and if she had any children of her own.

Our home study had a section on guardianship as well. I would definitely get the mispellings of your son's name corrected. I know it takes more time, but better now than when in PGN. I don't know how they are now because I've been out since February, but they were very particular with everything.

They included a guardianship paragraph in our homestudy stating who the guardians would be and why we chose them. I would have it redone...I would think it's easier to do now than later, plus you won't have that anxiety of wondering if you'll get kicked out.

Our homestudy included a sentence about who we appointed as guardians. Our placement agency asked the homestudy agency to add that we had a "written agreement".

We originally had our homestudy done with the intent to adopt from India. There was no mention of guardians in it. When we switched to Guatemala, our agency wanted it included. Actually, when we switched to Guatemala, we had to add alot of stuff to our homestudy. And I assume it was required based on what people had been KO'ed for previously. Oh, and in the guardian section, it basically stated that the guardians were emotionally, financially, and physically able to care for another child too.

Very unhappy with my agency due to lack of communication, long process, contract restrictions, and many other reasons. Ask me if you'd like to avoid them.

I included a guardian in my homestudy. It may be beneficial to confirm everything is spelled correctly. Though someone stated that is their job to correct spelling errors, its your baby. You need to make sure the process moves forward as smoothly as possbile. Don't rely on someone else.
