Please pray for my princess Abby
As you all know Abby has been having trouble with this one ear infection. We took her to the dr. probably over 3 weeks ago. To find out she had an ear infection. So, we did the first round of antibiotics, then for the recheck, no better yet. So, the second round of antibiotics, still not better. Then, the Rocephin shots, recheck today. The ear is still infected. Please God will this ear infection not clear up. So, we have to go see a ENT tomorrow. I am so scared that they are going to want to put tubes in her little ears. She already hates the doctors. Please remember Abby in your prayers. Her little ears hurt!

Beth: I hope that Abby gets better fast! Are you giving her something for pain? I know the thought of tubes is hard, especially the anesthesia, but it's a really fast procedure and she may feel incredibly better after. Good luck.

Beth,
My son also had ear infections that could not be cleared up, so he got tubes in his ears when he was 18 months. The procedure took about 1/2 hour with a very light general anesthesia, and he was his old self within a couple of hours. Since he had the tubes, he had no pain or ear infections for 6 months, and the only "inconvenience" was that he had to wear earplugs in the bath, and when swimming. Then, the tubes grew out, and he had to have a second set put in, because he was still getting the infections. The tubes are so, so tiny, and you can barely see them when they come out. I hope your daughters infection clears up, but if it doesn't the tubes really work well. Good luck! |

1st ear infection
Well, when we picked her up in Guatemala. I asked the fm if she had any allergies. She said not that she knew of because Abby had never been sick. She had never been on any medications. So, it was strange to me that this was her first ear infection and they can't clear it up.
I will post a follow-up tomorrow. Thanks Beth

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this--I know it's scary when your little one is sick. I went through the same thing with Wesley when he was a baby. He had to have tubes put in when he was ten months old. I was terrified--but he did fine, and it really did help. He didn't have to have another set for 10 years!
I hope you don't have to have any at all, but take heart, even if your daughter does need tubes, you will get through this and it will be much better on the other side. Carolyn

I justed wanted to say that tubes CAN make a world of difference. Sadly, chronic pain (like ear infections) can really significantly affect attachment and that should be a big concern for you. Tubes will clear it right up and arent a big deal.

So sorry to hear about Abby's pain.....our 7 yo had frequent infections, too, and we hesitated (and waited) before having tubes put in. They worked great! She was out of pain the same day they put them in, and never got another infection, so it was sooo worth it.

I am so sorry to hear, but the tubes do work. My son has had some surgery for something else, and I do suggest that you use a Children's Hospital outpatient center if at all possible. We found that they were very prepared for the worries of parents and actually had a good experience all in all. Before bringing my son completely out of the anethesia, they had me in recovery in a rocking chair to hold him and make eye contact. I really believe this helped him.
Best wishes and we sill keep you in our prayers. Jenn
