Angry i cant believe the wait time required to readopt here!

here i am (and apparently EVERYONE in my states county!)
WANTING to readopt my sweet mira!
so, i find out today that while our state requires a 6 month wait, our county requires a YEAR!
AND
then i have to have all my documents copied so they can review them...you know stuff like the hogar was good with our adopting mira and junk like that!

I am so FRUSTRATED!

THEN!!!

they want 2 post placement visits 6 months and a year.
that's all good in fact i like those as they are helpful and it's fun to show what youve been waiting for etc.
BUT, it was worded like this..."that way the judge can see how the child is adjusting"!
I know this is good and everything for situations where there are problems, issues, or even dangers...BUT for me it's just like another "test"!
Im feeling like i did when i had my first homestudy appointment! Will we pass?? Are we good enough?!
AND our homestudy agency rep has to come and state were all good to go! TO the courthouse!

See, guys, i thought this readopting thing was just forms, money, and a court hearing...like a formality!
I was all "done" doing all i needed to make Mira our little girl! Guatemala said okay, BCIS said okay! so i was like, OKAY!

But now, here we go again.

I know this might be normal, and common...
it's just i didnt know there was MORE!
More paperwork,
More homestudies,
and
More WAITING!

cris...who is so frustrated and sad she now has a headache and is trying not to cry!

ps i think it is just MEAN and UNETHICAL to make a family wait like this! HUMPH

OH Cris bless your heart. I felt frustrated as well when I went to do the readoption. The paperwork never seems to end. We readopted Emma in May and I just a week ago got the birthcertificate. Apparently it is pretty hard to type it into a computer and spit out a copy? Hang in there you are good enough and Mira is blessed to have you as a mommy. It is just an additional check and balance in this journey of adoption.

Cris--Are you sure that the provisions you are citing to don't pertain just to in-country adoptions? Our state has a "recognition of foreign adoption" provision, which is much simpler than the regular adoption statute (which is quite similar to what you describe). For a recognition of foreign adoption in our state, a hearing is not even required (though we had one so our families could attend).

Of course, I wouldn't put it past a legislature to require just about anything...

What state are you in? Or PM me if you don't want to broadcast it. I'd be happy to see if I could find a statute more to your liking (and maybe even one you could use)!

I am sorry

I am sorry that this is so hard for you. We just readopted Emma here in MN and we did not even need a hearing. Hang in there and I hope someone has some good advice for you.

i don't know what state you live in but in my state readoptions vary greatly county by county. in my county we had to do another post-placement visit by a county appointed social worker (different from the post-placement visits we had already done with the homestudy agency) .

i didn't want more post-placement visits and didn't want to pay for more visits, so we readopted in a different county than which we live. this ended up being at least $1000 cheaper and much less work. i just had to drive an hour to the courthouse instead of at 10 min. trip downtown.

hope this helps,
sara
