ONE year ago....

Hello Forum Friends,

It is so hard to believe it's been ONE year since the day I first met Addison Grace on my visit trip to Guatemala. Some days it seems like yesterday, other days it seems a lifetime and that she has always been a part of me!

What an amazing day...filled with joy and fear and highs of emotion and just simple wonderment at this little baby daughter who was being entrusted to me by her loving birth family, and the universe....I wrote a (long-ish) story about my memorable journey to meet Addison, and if anyone would like to read it, please PM me your regular email address so I can send you the Word doc attachment. It's too long to post in this thread. Every time I go back and read that story, it brings me to tears and I realize it is one of the true, real, life changing moments I will never, ever forget.

But really, this picture says it all. See the joy in my face? It was the very first time I held her. As soon as she was placed in my arms, this photo was taken. Oh, what a moment!

What joy and love and complete beauty this little girl has brought into my life. I scarcely can imagine it without her now.

Jen

another photo

....during my visit with Addison, we went to a pediatrician appointment....this is me, holding her in the doctor's office. I love this picture because she had only been in my arms for about 10 minutes, and she went fast asleep....it really gave me peace to know that right away, she was that comfortable with me. I was sitting in the waiting room with her in my arms, and the nurse came over to us, looked down at the baby adoringly and whispered quietly in her Spanish accent...."Like angel".....and truly, she was.

Jen
still overwhelmed by it all, one year later!

doctor appointment

I loved this doctor! He told me Addison was "very sociable" (and boy was he right! LOL!) and that she loved people....This nice doctor was so sweet and personable...and the baby clearly loved him too! This was such a precious picture. He had her giggling and kicking her legs, and just doing her happy trembles!

Jen
who never gets tired of these first visit pictures!

heartbeat

This is Addison paying very close attention to what the doctor is doing....LOL! Nothing about her personality is more accurate than this photo....she never misses anything! Hehehe!

For any of you who have bio children, I know you remember the day you first heard your baby's heartbeat.

Well, this was really a special day because not only did I get to meet her, but I heard her heartbeat too! While we were at the doctor and he was examining her....he turned to me as he was taking a listen and said "do you want to hear her heart beat?" Are you kidding me? OF COURSE I did! He placed the stethescope in my ears and moved aside, while Addison looked up at me smiling sweetly.... and OH my goodness, there it was....the unmistakeable "ba bump, ba bump" of my little daughter's heart beat! It gave me chills and I was just lost in the moment...

I guess it's true what they say...in one small heart beat, life was forever changed. I'll never forget it!

Jen
getting all choked up with the memories....!

Trick or Treat

When I visited, it was of course, almost Halloween. So I couldn't resist this outfit and took it with me. Not knowing if the baby would ever wear it, or what....

but surprised and pleased to receive a picture of her in the very next update (after I was back home) and she was wearing this outfit....I was so tickled!

FYI...this is a size 3-6 months, and it was quite large on her. She was so tiny then! And after I got the disposable cameras back at the pickup trip, and had them developed, there were a bunch of pictures of her wearing this and they had even painted whiskers on her face and given her rosy cheeks. I am so happy to have photos of her "first Halloween ever" in Guatemala!

Jen
looking forward to the real deal this year...LOL!

What a sweet thread Jen. Congrats on the most precious year of your and Addison's life.

I think you should start a new thread and call it "Our Adoption Story" or something catchy for newbies. Include the long story you mention and post some pics.

When I was researching and in process I LOVED to read other adoptive family's stories. It provided me with a glimpse into my future and prepared me for the process. I can honestly say that I didn't have any surprises and it was because others, before me, had shared so much that I was prepared for it all. So post that story Girlfriend and please do it in a seperate thread as it may be selected for the monthly newsletter! *hint, hint*

Oh, and either way, I want to read it. I will PM my email addy.

me and my girl

This picture was taken the second day I was there. It is framed on the dresser in Addison's room in a beautiful frame that says "Fairy tales do come true".....

And yes, to all who wait....they DO come true!

Thanks for letting me share....as always!

Steph

Steph,

I'm telling you, it is LOOOOONNNNGGGGGG so after you read it, you will probably change your mind! I can't imagine leaving parts of it out, either....I recorded every single thing I remembered from that time, because I did not ever want to forget one minute of this most amazing time.

I'll email you the doc....you'll see!

Thanks for your sweet words...it really has been such an incredible year. For those who still wait, your time will come and I PROMISE it will be as much, or more, than you have ever dreamed possible!

Jen

I loved your photoshow! That must have taken a lot of time to put together. I'm sure Addison will treasure it, too (I bet she even likes to watch it now--I know Joseph likes slideshows of himself).

Congratulations on your one year anniversary.

Hi Jen

Who would have thought that even though I have seen that slide show probably 50 times now, I would STILL be bawling while watching it??????? Yikes!!!
That is truly the most touching video I have ever seen! No matter how many times I see it ( and it has been LOTS and LOTS and LOTS ) , I cry!!!! Can't wait until Jim comes home tonight so he can watch it with me again. I am sure he is going to thank you sooooo much because I make him watch it over and over with me while I sit here with tears pouring down my face!!!!

I need your help to make one for Annie. Please! By the way, I put new pics in the mail for you this morning. You should receive them mid week. Let's catch up soon!!!

Hugs...

Diane and Annie
