Question Calling All Floridians-are You Staying Or Leaving?

With the hurricane approaching, we are now wondering if we should stay or leave. We are in Tampa and are not suppose to get the eye, but still are in the outer bands of the "cone", from what the forecasts are showing.
Any Floridians out there-what are you doing?-I have heard that the closest destination for rooms now is in Georgia????

Hey...We're north of Orlando, and we're staying...I hadn't heard that all hotels rooms were gone...We had minor damage last year with a few trees down..Of course we lost our power and water on two of the three that came into our area. If I lived more on the coast, as you do, we might evacuate. Be safe!

We are in Orlando also and are staying. As far as I know we are supposed to go to work on Monday so we really can't leave.

Smile Staying

West Palm Beach area, (Wellington) we've lived here since January 2005 and weren't here for last year's drama but we are staying. aia have put my foot down and forbidden ANY hurricane activity. (This gets quite the giggle from my coworkers who WERE her for last year's hurricanes. Wish me luck!

lovelivy: since you're on the west coast, you're the most vulnerable. But if it's a cat 1 or 2 you should be fine. We're about 70 miles inland, in the Ft. Lauderdale area so we're not too worrried. Unless things worsen, I don't think we're gonna put up the shutters.

Stay safe everyone! I hope everyone's power stays on.

We are in the Tampa area as well. We are staying. We are not in a flood zone. These storms are crazy. You never know what they will do. I have friends that went to Orlando last year to dodge a hurricane. The storm missed us here and hit Orlando. We will keep an eye on it. If the predictions are on target it will hit further south as a cat 1. But you never know.

Hi! We're in Palm Beach. Not even putting the shutters up for now. Looks like only a CAT 1 or a TS by the time it works all the way across the state. Do have the generator ready though...I hate being without power. Good luck all!

Cocoa Beach checking in here and we are gonna stay put. Things are going along as normal so far but my hubby is on alert(he works fire dept and police dept) for some possible long hours. They will probably close schools here Monday from the rumblings I have heard. Tonight I am helping my daughter get ready for Homecoming and there is no hurricane anywhere that can squash her excitement. Take care everyone and keep in touch here so we can all know how the rest of the state is doing.

Well, we decided today to get those shutters up . . . it's a 6 hour ordeal but better safe than sorry. Hopefully the winds won't exceed 40 - 60 mph, but if they do, we'll be ready.

How's everybody else doing?

Melbourne here - schools here are closed tomorrow, shelters are open and mandatory evacuations of mobile homes and low areas have started..........
We are staying and playing it by ear if we will put up our shutters.

Just checking in again....The storm seems to be farther south than originally anticipated...They still cancelled school, so my kids are happy!! I don't think they remember their make-up days from last year! Take care everyone!
