Dr. Montiel

I just wanted to write a note to say how impressed I am with Dr. Monteil. He is my little girl's pediatrician in Guatemala City and on my recent visit, she was running a relatively high fever and not only did he answer my email to him promptly, but he offered to talk to me by phone...can't get that service in the U.S.

Also, I believe he is the one taking the pictures of her that are sent w/the monthly updates and they are of high quality.

Just wanted to share this with you all. I even heard through the grapevine that some attorneys don't like to work w/him because he is SO thorough in his exams that it can slow process sometimes. Don't know about you, but I would rather have a thorough pediatrician.

Cheers!

Our son, Jonathan, also had Dr. Montiel as his pediatrician. We were so very grateful to have him. He sent pictures each and every month!!

I'm a huge fan of Dr. Montiel's as well (although I've never met him!). Took great care of my baby girl, although he scared the heck out of me right before my visit trip when I read his email saying that he was concerned about my daughter's weight gain (put her on iron drops & a caloric supplement & a new formula). Yay for Dr. Montiel -- my kiddo was muy gordita when I picked her up!

Someone else also posted here (and I'm wondering if others have heard or confirmed this) that all Dr. Montiel's vaccinations are thimerasol-free. That would be great if true.

I've heard that the reason that some attorneys don't like to work with Dr. Montiel is because he operates a clinic and there are no appointment times, so it can be very time-consuming for the attorney and foster Mom to have to wait to see the doctor. I don't know if this true, but it's what I've been told. I've also been told that he isn't accepting new patients right now, but that might be agency-specific or attorney-specific or something.

My son had Dr. Montiel also. He responded right away when I "dared" contact him to request the May medical update that my agency or facilitator or attorney (whomever gets them from him) didn't forward to me. Also, my son's vaccines were all good and he didn't give him the BCB vaccine that is not done here in the States.

Unfortunately, some agencies do no want to use his services. Shame on them!

Thumbs up I agree

Dr. Montiel is awesome ! When Joey got life threating "Shigella" while in Guatemala I asked my agency if I could have Dr. Montiel examine him because of all the good things I was hearing about him. They hemmed and hawed and finally I got ahold of his email to contact him myself. He promtely emailed me back and agreed to examine Joey for us when were went for a visit trip in GC. What an honor to meet such a fine man. He was kind, reassuring and very thorough. And yes he does take a lot of the update pictures (he was taking some when we arrived at his office).

When I told him who Joey's regular ped. was he laughed and said, oh Joey's in good hands, he is my brother-in-law! I was so relieved (you'd think my agency would have known this and told me but I guess they didn't know). I have also heard that some agencies won't use him because he is so honest and thorough.

Anyhow, I agree with your post... your child is in great hands!
