Our adoption so far ...

Short version:
Started gathering papers in November 2004
The earliest available SW with experience writing international homestudies for Guatemala couldn't see us until 2/05 -- OK
I visited and met the kids 01/05
Homestudy completed 3/05
INS Approval 4/05
Visited the kids again and delivered dossier 4/05
5 Months went by with the facilitator saying the DNA would be done next week, they had trouble locating the birthmother.
Late 9/05, facilitator says court lost homestudy, please send another one. And also says that
Hired Adoption Supervisors 10/05
AS discovers NOTHING has been done with my dossier. FC has no record of our case.
AS finds the "true" facilitator and gets the ball rolling

Hooray for AS!
So, 5 months after submitting the dossier, we are pretty much just getting started. Another certified copy of the homestudy and the new POA for AS have been authenticated and are now on there way to Guatemala. Please join me in praying that the kids won't have to wait too much longer for their forever family!

OMG, that just stinks!! So good that you hired AS and got things rolling. I hope it goes smoothly from here on out!

Very unhappy with my agency due to lack of communication, long process, contract restrictions, and many other reasons. Ask me if you'd like to avoid them.

I'm SOOO sorry for all the awful delays! I'm happy to hear that AS is helping you get back on track -- it's a relief, isn't it, to have help to turn to?!

I sure hope you can get those kids home SOON. I know that it's especially hard to wait when you know that your children are old enough to know that they are waiting, too.

Thank You!

Thanks everyone for the kind and thoughtful words.

Yes, what is hardest for me is knowing that the kids know that they are waiting. I speak some Spanish, but not enough to tell them that it will happen, to just hang in there. Months fly by for you and me, but for the kids each month seems like forever. I can't be a comfort to them right now with my limited vocabulary. But somehow, I think they try to comfort me when we speak. Isn't that crazy?

Dear Father, keep them safe and happy while they are out of my arms. Amen.
