please clarify how new proposed law will affect new potential adoptions

My husband and I are contemplating adoption from Guatemala - we currently have a state home study completed, but we will have to do a new home study for international adoption and also get all the paperwork required for Guatemala....in other words we have a while before we will be ready to go on a Guatemalan adoption....
I am concerned and confused on how the new proposed legislation will affect us if we proceed with this process in 2006....
can anyone answer my questions?
Very much appreciated!
Val

Val, I don't think anyone really knows at this point. But if you read the forums and check in regularly at guatadopt.com you stay well informed. Any way we might answer your question is only speculation at this point.

Val - My husband and I are just getting started with our home study and we've received the same advice as lmvsmom is offering. Apparently from what we've been told there isn't any single source that is 100% reliable to confirm when and how laws will impact those of us who are early in the process. We're really interested in adopting from Guatemala and I think we're going to keep going and keep the faith that it will work out Good luck to you!

Hi there.

I think that this forum (The ortega law sticky) and guatadopt.com are the best sources for timely and accurate information regarding the situation. In any case, it's hard to make the decision, but you need to follow your instincts and your heart.
Right now there seems to be a lull in the action following several very tumultuous weeks of the first and second readings. Doesn't mean that it has gone away...just means that there was enough opposition that the congressmen decided to take another look.
Good luck in whatever you decide.
