Can anyone explain Form I-864--Affidavit of Support??

We were told to complete an Affidavit of Support, Form I-864. I read it and I don't understand it at ALL!!
Can anyone explain??
If you are married, did you both fill this out?

I read on the Guat Embassy website that you only have to fill this out if you know your child will come home on an IR-4 Visa. We visited, therefore, our son will come home on an IR-3 Visa.

Help!! Please???????

I also thought it was only for the IR-4 visa. We didn't fill one out unless we did it early in the process and I just forgot about it.

I don't know about the different visa types and how it concerns this form.

However, I can tell you that we have not visited and this is how our agency guided us through the forms.
1) Fill out I-864 listing only larger of 2 salaries (in our case DH's) and no assests. Therefore DH is the "sponsor".
2) Fill out one I-864A listing me as the one promising to support the sponsor, DH.
