Those of you with your children home (congrats, BTW!): In order to complete readoption, or to obtain other US "credentials" (passport, birth certificate, etc.), what documents did you need to have translated from Spanish into English? Did you hire your own translator or did you have to use one from the state (or court?) How much did it cost you?

We needed the Guatemalan BC and the Protocolo translated. But, AFTER we paid for US-cert-and-auth translation, it turned out that the Guatemalan translation would have sufficed. So make sure you ASK, before shelling out more money!

Everything that we received at pick-up had the original document with the English translation attached. We've used these documents for everything (passports, readoption, social security and C of C's) with no problems. Look at the paperwork that you're given in Guatemala very carefully before leaving............I know of others who have not received all of the paperwork that they should have and are now having a horrible time.
Just my .02! Lori

We didn't have to have anything translated. Our homstudy agency sent us a packet with directions on how to do eveything and made it very easy.

Packet
Our facilitator gave us our packet at pick up and we went through it to make sure everything was translated and it was so we didn't have to have anything translated. CHeck with your attorney or facilitator before you leave Guatemala to make sure you have everything. Our attorney was so good and had everythig we needed.

CoachMom,
To try and answer your question, I would verify that the following are in your packet of papers (with the English translation attached): Original birth certificate New birth certificate with your name(s) on it Final adoption decree PGN Protocolo We also received copies of: POA Social worker report Family court ruling DNA report This should all be in a packet for you to keep. Our attorney went through the whole thing with us when we went through the paperwork needed for the embassy visit. Hope that helps! Lori
