Exclamation Response I Got Back From People Magazine on the Anti Adoption Letter

Good morning everyone,
I just wanted to show you the response I got back from "People" magazine-Obviously, there were many other people that had similar views to to what this anti adoption person wrote. Here is the response below******* (ps-as you probably know, I am no longer a People reader) Thank you for writing to PEOPLE Magazine. We appreciate the interest that prompted your response and we welcome this opportunity to address your criticism.

We are sorry that our decision to publish Stephen Weiss’s letter in the Mailbag angered you. The letters published in the Mailbag neither represent nor reflect the opinions or views of our editors. Rather, our mail column is a forum for our readers to express their opinions on articles published in PEOPLE. As we have a limited amount of space for our mail column, our editors choose letters that best reflect our readers’ opinions on a particular story. We received a number of letters from readers who expressed views similar to Mr. Weiss, thus the reason for our decision to include it. We believe that the mail page accurately reflects the type of mail we received in response to stories in our September 5th issue.

While we regret that the letter upset and offended you, we appreciate your sharing your point of view with us and we are sorry that you will no longer be a PEOPLE reader.

Negativity

WOW!!!!!!
From that response, they make it sound like only negative people are reading People Magazine and sending in mail, therefore that is all they have to choose from. I find that very hard to believe.
Regardless, no wonder so many of their stories are based more towards the negative side of things.
It also seems from that response, that they prefer negativity over the positive side of things, because after all, that is the route they took with that article, when they published it and they are more than willing to defend that choice. How sad.
I really liked the fake appology at the end, so they could try to smooth things over with you and get away with all the worthless excuses they gave, as to why they published such rubish in the first place. To funny.

LOL!! What a load of crap!! I like the way they make it sound like they HAD to publish a "sample" of the letters they receive from idiot bigots!! LOL!!

They had no choice you see?? Riiiiiiiiight!!!

People magazine is just a trashy rag. It's "The Natl Enquirer" with glossy pages ... written mostly for teens now.

I think a mail page is for opinion and controversy... they often publish negative responses in that section (I read People and US Weekly regularly)... The more outrageous the response that is printed.. the better the reaction.

I would assume that if letters like yours are pouring in, then the editor is getting a pat on his or her back for doing his or her job...

My guess is that in reality they dont really care what is in the letters that come in... only that the letters come in.

Gossip and controversy is what we readers of tabloids want-- dangit!

So would they print something that reflected the view of someone that was sexist or rascist if they received a lot of letters reflecting these opinions? Doubtful because they know these attitudes are plain wrong and wouldn't give them a forum.

I dont know.. I see a lot of really funny, mean and sarcastic letters that they print....

But I also dont think that being anti adoption is the same as being racist or sexist...not even close. Race and Gender are not things that people have a choice about and they dont differentiate... an opinion is simply something people form after weighing the facts against their belief system... There isnt a right or wrong.. there are just differring opinions...

I havent read the letter though... but now I want to... I hope the issue is with the way the opinion was expressed and not just that the person has that opinion in general...

This type of attitude/response published in such a public forum (People Magazine) again illustrates the point that all we can do is control what and how we feel about a certain subject - and hope to educate others as we go in order to combat ignorance.diane

Basically he was complaining about Agelina Jolie adopting kids from other countries and that she was going to end up like Mia Farrow (sp?). He wanted to know she could not adopt the red white and blue kids (american) and how we need to adopt our own first.

My question is still, how many american kids has he adopted?

Personally I feel they are all our kids.

Oh ok.. I may have actually seen that... I usually just laugh.

Sounds like an overzealous "patriot" though.. and not someone anti-adoption.

ROFL.. wind up like Mia Farrow?? So he thinks Brad is going to fall for Zahara then??

Seems more comical than anything.

Amen! I don't understand why people are so intent on only adopting American kids... Domestic adoption is right for some parents; international is right for others... What ever happened to "They are precious in His sight... ALL the children of the world!" ? People should realize that any child coming home to a forever family is a blessing -- it shouldn't matter where in the world that child happened to be born.
