Adoption guidelines

Hi I am new to all the adoption stuff , but to adopt in Guatemala do you need to be married. My "hubby" and I have been living common in law for 12 yrs with 2 bio children , just wondeing if it's possible without "legally" being married to adopt from there.

Currently, you do not need to be married to adopt from Guatemala. The Guatemalan Congress is considering legislation that, potentially, would ban singles from adopting, but that legislation has not passed yet and may not pass and even if it does pass, may be challenged as unconstitutional.

No, you don't need to be married to adopt from Guatemala. I don't know if they would process your application as a single or a couple though. That would be a good question for an agency.

I have a penpal who was in your situation, they planned on marrying after the adoption, but the friend adopted as a single mom. Not sure of the details.
Maybe someone else has more info?
