Just curious as to how you managed your family....DH (not that he needs to be managed but I am sure you all know what I mean) & kids.....a grueling schedule.......a messy house.....etc. It's been over 20 yrs. since I have been in school......I am very excited about this new adventure but I guess you could say I have a case of cold feet.
BTW.....I am getting ready to register for an RN program at our local community college. Am I crazy or what?! Thanks for the input!

Hi Cindy,
I'm back in school after 11 years and starting what will most likely lead to a PhD. I don't have any other children and am still at the beginning of the adoption process. Already my hat is off to you with five children and a husband! We will be managing by either hiring a nanny part-time or sending our son to part-time daycare. There's an excellent one near our house that our friends use that has a 4-to-1 ratio. Also, my husband is a professor and can work from home, so that helps too. The thing that's been hard for me is getting back into the studying groove again. Remembering how to study and write papers took a while, but now it's easier. Good luck with your nursing program. We definitely need more RN's in the world. ![]()

Hi! I'm new here... this is the first time I've seen anyone say anything about being in school. My husband is in Afghanistan and we will adopt next fall. I just started a master's program this summer that I won't finish until December 2007. Then he's going back to school. We would like to adopt siblings-- less than 3 years old. Are we crazy? We've been TTC for 4 1/2 years. We really don't want to wait until 2010 when we're both finished and we want more than 2. Any thoughts...

I have two bio girls, ages 3 and 2 and went back to school for my MBA starting last spring. It was pretty crazy, but manageable!!! Now that we are adopting TWO babies (one will be home in about a month and the other hopefully this fall yet) I am still planning to stay in school, however I will be quitting my job which I think will help quite a bit (I only work PT though). Anyway, for me it was a perfect time to go back to school since I was only working PT (or not working at all now!!!) By the time the kids are all in school and I am ready to go back to work FT, I will be able to get a job I actually enjoy!!! It would be literally impossible for me to work FT and go to school, so if I don't do it now I will probably never have another chance.

My DH is in grad school while working full time. He took this summer and the fall semester off to spend lots of time with Jesse, but he'll return in the spring. I'm hoping he doesn't get sick burning the candle at both ends, but we both really want him to finish.
Good luck with the nursing program: it is exciting!!!

Well if anyone I know has the energy to pull this off that would be YOU little mama! I think it's a great idea and with two teen boys in the home I know you can make it work. Can you take night classes?

I went back to college when my DD was about 4. I went part time and it took me about 6 years to finish...
but I got 'er done! I had 2 years of college already completed from when I was 18 - 20...but since I switched from Elementary Ed some of my credits could not be applied towards my BS in Accounting. I was about 27 when I went back... was a 'non-traditional' student. DD4 went to the daycare right at the college...I only took 2 classes per term so she wasn't there all week long. When she got old enough for kindergarten it got a bit more tricky getting in 2 classes since she was only at school for about 3 hours...I'd have to rush home and be at the bus stop right after my class. I'd say the most exhausting thing was studying at night after DD was in bed ... that's usually when I had the least amount of energy. Anyway... my advice is to definitely go for it! Just don't overload yourself with too many credits...and DON'T expect to get straight A's and keep up with the 'kids' in your class. You've got a ton more responsibility then most of them so just do your best and get those credits counted and done with! I'd do it all over again!!! GL!!! ![]()

I went back for my Master's Degree when I had a 2 year old, a 3 month old and in the middle of my program I gave birth to my 3rd child (took off one week and then finished the semester). I took evening classes and I hired a wonderful high school student in my neighborhood to watch the girls (my dad watched the baby for me). My husband was also in school at the time working on his MBA, so he wasn't any help
![]() Was it hard? Yes. Was it crazy at my house? Yes. Am I glad I did it? Yes. Take your time....don't rush your classes. Ease yourself into it...maybe 2 classes the first semester. Have fun!!

Yes I did
I had my ADN in nurisng and was bored waiting around to adopt so I went back to school. First semester started in August and guess what!!! My adopted son was born Nov 5th and I was there for his delivery. Think that gets crazy 9 months later get prego with baby #2 and three months after baby two was born prego with baby #3. So started out with no babies and graduated with my BSN with three. My teachers just laughed and was happy that I did it. It was tough at times and a few tears shed here and there but I'm glad. Just sad that I didn't walk because I just had a c-section two weeks prior and was up for it.
Nursing is a great carrer good money well actually great money I work at a hospital. Full time for me is only three twelve hour shifts a week. Love the time with the kids so worth. Cutting back to two shifts a week very soon. That is what I love about nursing so many options and you can make it work with what you need. Good luck. Ange |

Hey Cindy - I am also registering for an RN program at our tech college in the fall. I have 4 kids 18,17,3 and 1 and am really nervous about juggling everything but mostly about going back to school with a bunch of 18 year olds (yikes! I am 43). I have a BS in business but have never used it.
It'll be very strange as my oldest is off to college also in the Fall. Good Luck!! Janie
