Just Starting Out
Just began the whole process of adoption last weekend. The veryvery initial paperwork. So glad I found this site...but the more I read the more I think WHEW THIS SHALL BE A PROCESS.
Just hoping in a year I will have a little girl to show for it all  Anyway, plan to learn as much as I can from everyone. Thanks in advance, Carla

Wow. You are paperchasing for your FOURTH? that is definitely a vote of confidence that Ill muddle through all this!
seems like a LOT of paper work...Ive been reading through all the info here and trying to get all the tips I can BEFORE I make a mistake. Guess I need to get on the fingerprinting asap as that seems to be a slow one. appreciate the welcome.

I just wanted to say a quick hello and welcome you. My husband and I have only just started our process - we signed with our agency two weeks ago and are now on the infamous paper-chase! I lurked here for a while and learned so much from everyone here. It's really a very supportive board from what I've seen, and everyone is really nice. Congratulations on your decision to adopt! Im not usually a messageboardgal but KNEW in my heart that this whole process shall be unlike anyother and Ill need help and support and insight from people who can UNDERSTAND what this is all like. you ACCEPTED your referral just a few days ago Mildred. (pardon my ignorance) what happens now? will you go and visit? WHEN can you go and visit?SO exciting for you. Also, Im a smidge lost in the initials in your sig. Contract HS agency? is that your adoption agency? how did you get fingerprinted so fast? did you already have birth certif. handy etc.? thanks for your help...whenever you have a moment...

SO NICE to meet someone in my same place. Not sure how on EARTH you do the pm thing (or if Ive signed up such that my email is even...PMable ) but send me a message if you can and would be interested in emailing as we go.I laugh that my husband initially said "oh the paperwork shall be NOTHING. I deal with that all day!!" and then he looked at our list etc. Man, just looking through all the pictures of happy parents and their new bundles is motivation enough.

Welcome Carla. I can't wait to hear how your jouney unfolds. To PM you just left click on the persons forum name (like mac308) and it will say "send a private message to mac308) then you click that. When you get on the forum there is a box in the top right corner that tells you if you have a PM (at least that's how it is for me). Anyway, congrats on starting the process. Good luck.

Hi Carla - and welcome! I live in Tx also, what part do you live in?
We are almost done with our dossier and are waiting on a referral. It seems like just yesterday we started all the paperwok - even though it was horribly slow during the process! LOL You may want to go ahead and send in your I600A as soon as you can. If you live in the DFW area they will accept it and log it in. Then when they get your homestudy you will get the letter to be fingerprinted. The sooner you get your I600A in the sooner you will get your immigration approval back after you are fingerprinted. At least that's the way I understood it. Well, as anything you like - and you can PM me if you'd like.

THANKS SO MUCH to everyone for responding
Im already feeling so grateful that I happened to stumble upon this forum while doing a million google searches for additional information. Im in Austin Texas. My poor husband as I was rambling ON AND ON last night about how helpful people are here and how I think some of them have actually met up in Guatemala etc. We had considered China initially and one thing I really liked about adopting from there is the closeness that people who have done China adoption seem to have AFTER the adoption process----great to see that here as well. Fingers crossed all my gladney stuff arrives in the mail today.
