Thinking of moving to NASHVILLE TN

My husband is looking for a new job and we are thinking of moving states, there is a chance of a job in Nashville, but before we decide we would love to hear from people who live there.

We would like to know how it will be for our 2 children, is there a large Guatemalan adoptive community there?, How the housing situation is (is it $$$$ or fairly reasonable), How the schools are, Things to do, How the overall standard of living is.....
If anyone has lived there, or does live there please chime in....... thanks

Hello, I have lived in Nashville for about four years now, and absolutely love it! I am still waiting on my 1st refferal. My husband and I actually live in a suburb right outside of Nashville, the homes are not near as expensive..... PM me maybe I can answer some more specific questions if you would like.

What does your husband do? Do you work? How old is your first child?

Talking Love It Here

Also from the Nashville area and have lived in Nashville proper. Everywhere I go, I always want to come back. Love it here! Nashville certainly isn't the biggest city you will come across, but it is big enough that you can always find things to do. With a VERY high income area to the south (that county briely topped the list as the richest in the country and is still in the top 5), there are a lot (!!!!) of adopted children in the area. Just in our little circle of friends I could get into double-digits if I started counting all the adopted little ones.

The housing market ... depends on what you are looking for. Some areas, especially to the south, are ridiculously expensive (think 500K+ for a 2000sq ft house on 1/10 acre), but if you are willing to drive just a little then you can easily find very good deals on nice homes with plenty of space.

The standard of living around Nashville is very high, but it isn't too difficult to find much poorer areas on an afternoon drive.

There is a silly fact out there, I can't remember the exact wording, but it is along the lines of Nashville is within 1000 miles of 80% of the US population. My numbers are probably a little off, but that is the jist of the fact.

People will try to coax you into the much more expensive areas saying the schools are a lot better, but as the husband to a teacher, son to a teacher, nephew to a teacher, and close friend to several teachers, all in different areas, don't believe it. There are really good ones and really bad ones in every district.

Feel free to PM me, we are always looking to meet more adoptive families in the area!

East Nashville

We are in Nashville as well. Bringing home our second boy from Guatemala on 8/18. We love Nashville, lots to do etc. Schools depend on where you live, our children will NOT be going to public in this area most likely.
Our agency has a Guatemalan play group that meets a couple times a month, I believe, haven't attended one yet, but am planning to quit working after Kiefer gets home and go.

Hey everyone from Nashville, lets all try to get together soon!

phew that makes me feel so much better,... my husband and I are hoping for a more "homey" feel - belive it or not Phoenix is like the 5th or 6th largest city in America, and although where we live in Scottsdale there is a smaller town feel its still bigger than we would like... so now I am excited, it seems Nashville is a good choice... now we just have to hope his interview goes well on Friday! Thanks - I will keep your emails and if dh gets the job I will PM y'all for more info
Hugs
Kati

I lived in Nashville for a year and a half when I went to Belmont College. I really loved it there and found it was a very friendly city to live in. With it being a the capitol, a college town and Music City, there is alot to do there. It would be one place I wouldn't mind living in again with a family. We plan to visit again real soon after our adoption is complete to let Emma meet my friends down there.
