avoid probs with final sign off

Hi Everyone - I posted this earlier as a response but want to make sure more people saw it.

For those who have noticed threads about missing birth mothers, or problems getting b-mom to come in for final sign off, your attorney can ask the b-mom to sign a POA for final sign-off when she comes in for DNA and/or FC interview.

This will hopefully help avoid some headache and heartache. We've asked our agency to do this for both of our adoptions, learned the hard way when one of our b-moms was missing for a while.

It's also done if your birthmother lives far from Guatemala City and the attorney doesn't want to force her to travel again. Our birthmother has to take a 10-hour bus ride (practically all the way from the border of Belize) to get to G.C. so she signed a POA early on to avoid unnecessary trips. I agree - it's saved me from a TON of worry.

Thank you for the info. Will it work if B'Mom is a minor? Her parents have to do the signing.

Our birth mother also signed a POA. However, it is preferred that the birth mother still sign the final relinquishment. Our birth mother signed off in the end even though we had the POA.
