I heard (from an airline rep) that even though we will be holding our sweet baby in our lap on the plane ride home that we will still have to purchase an "infant ticket" since the flight is considered and "international" flight. This does not sound right to me - can some of you that have already come home with your little ones please tell me what your experience was? Thank you.

I haven't come home yet, but, I think I know this one. You do have to pay, but it's not a full ticket price. It's actually 10% of the full fare (though I've heard some people say they only paid 10% of the fare they had to pay, which is awesome!!)

Others who have traveled home with their cutie pies as lap children can elaborate I'm sure!!

That is correct. The price is typically 10% of the full adult fare...so they range from $80-$175 or so.

This of course doesn't give your infant a seat...the baby is still a 'lap child' but it gets him/her on the plane.

You can just wait until you get to the airport for your flight home to purchase this ticket if you would like...or if you are using one of the airlines located in the various hotels, you can do it there.

Yes, we had to pay a lap fare. It was 10% of my seat.

We just got back a week ago- and it was about $190 for the lap seat. Silly huh- we didn't argue, we were just happy to be bring her home... What's more money, right!???

Save yourself the extra hassle at the airport, get the ticket at the airline office in most of the bigger hotels prior to leaving. There is enough to deal with as far as checking in and paying the taxes/exit fee, so get the infant ticket before you even get to the airport.

and with us air, im using our "points", and her lap ticket is only 45$. im wondering if dh asked the wrong things... i guess not as they said he could purchase it when we purchase mine....

A few airlines charge only the taxes on a lap seat. So, I am paying just $45 to hold my daughter on my lap on the way to Bermuda. Perhaps, that is the case with USAir too?

There is a fee for a lap ticket. Our fee was $128.
