Readoption in Texas?
Has anyone gone through the readoption process in Texas? If so, please help us understand what needs to be done. Also- do we need to take care of citizenship issues first and then complete the readoption? Any info. would be so helpful. Thanks!

Michelle,
Our permanent address is Bexar County. We did readoption twice, but hired an attorney both times. (The county court told us that we would have to research how to present a court brief, etc. etc. if we wanted to represent ourselves, and I just didn't want to deal with the extra hassle.) The attorney charged $500. All we had to do was supply an information sheet (she gave us one), photocopies of the official documents that we brought back from Guatemala, a photocopy of our homestudy, and Baby's foreign passport with the visa stamp. Then we showed up for a simple court date, and we left the courthouse with several official copies of the new adoption decree. Our attorney also applied for our new Texas birth certificate for us. Very simple. We requested a waiver of the six month waiting period and readopted immediately after returning to Texas, without a COC. It was a non-issue . . . However, our baby was a US citizen upon arrival because we had visited prior to finalization in Guatemala. If you live in Bexar county and want the name of our attorney, just PM me. :-)

so easy
I agree with the post above ~ it was a VERY simple process... we hired a local Atty ~ gave her a copy of our file, court date, and we were done! We also came home on IR3 ~ so already a citizen ~ but applied for new COC with correct last name ~ as well as SS#, passport etc...
PM me if I can help at all! Don't sweat this part of the process ~ nothing to it!! Catherine |

name
The child's new last name (your last name) will appear on his Visa/Passport ~ but his/her first name will appear as the name given on original BC. The re-apoptio facilitates the official name change as well...all papers from then on will read with the "new" first name...new BC is issued with the correct first and last name etc...
Again, a simple process...fill out a few forms...appear before a judge for a few miniutes... forms are filed...DONE! Baby is officially re-adopted in US and name is officially and legally changed. |

Readoption
I have done a recognition of foreign adoption for both of my daughters and did not use an attorney either time. It was very easy and their is a place for a name change on there as well. Both of my daughters came home on an IR3. With the recognition, I applied for and received a Texas birth certificate.
I would be happy to share the documents I used. I live in Dallas county. Karen

I also live in Texas. I am just wondering if recognition or readoption is required or only if you are changing first or middle names? I am alittle confused here.
