Hello! Our birth mother is 19. By Guatemala standards is this old, young or average?

Ours was 22. I have heard of them being minors and heard of much older ones.

Our little man's birthmother turned 20 in May. And she is SOOOO pretty! I think about her often and pray for her daily.

Our babies birthmothers are 36 and 42. We were told it is very unusual to have birthmothers this age - most are much younger.

Our daughter's birthmom was 19 barely at referral...all went well with our process. And we have pictures of her which we cherish.

From what I’ve been told by the Guatemalan birth-aunt that I know, most birthmothers in Guatemala are usually older than the age of consent…meaning, if it’s a parental placement (typical of Guatemalan adoptions) then the birthmother will be over 18 normally. She said the reason is because most birthmothers hide their pregnancy, and if the birthmother is underage, her parents signature is required for the adoption…so in many cases (not all, but many) where the birthmother is under age, she doesn’t go thru the private adoption system set up in Guatemala…but rather places her child in an orphanage anonymously, and the abandonment processes must be done.

Of course, this is just what I was told…I have no first hand experience of this.

Kiran's birthmother was 23 at the time of his birth.

I have also heard of birthmothers that are underage and others that were in their 40s. I'm not sure what a "norm" age would be for a Guatemalan birthmother but it's more common for birthmothers to be of legal age and in their 20s or 30s.

Ours was 19 as well (b-father was 16)...I was under the impression this was young, but so far this thread reports they are at the younger end.

Princess Mia's birth mother was 26 but this was her 7th child so you can imagine her age when she first gave birth.

Sam's ** was 34 years old and I think Ana's is 40 (not sure about that)! I thought they were both older, it is very interesting that so many of your babies **'s are in their 30's and 40's..........
