I went to my cousin's baby shower today. She is about 18/19 years old.

I was talking to my two Aunts and they were asking about the status of our adoption and when we thought we would have Silvia home. I told them it hasn't gone as quickly as anticipated and probably wouldn't pick up until August.

My cousin laughs (actually said HA) and then said "I will have my baby before you"

I know she is only a teenager (though I was married and working full time at her age) but come on!

I just looked at her while her mother chastized her for being rude.

Yep, sounds like she needs to mature.. though when we were waiting for Marisol, dh's niece(33 yo) asked when we would be getting our baby. When I explained that we did not know for sure when we would be able to go get her, she says, "she'll be ready for college before you get her." I guess everyone has someone like that. I don't blame you for being bugged.

I sometimes think people just don't understand the depth of what we go through when adopting. They act like, I've said this before, we've just placed an order for fast food.

I am fortunate that most people around me are so supportive, but they also know I speak my mind and may be afraid to say anything before they think it through! LOL

I have one for you. One of my nephews said "don't you feel stupid paying $25k for a baby when me and my girlfriend are having one for free." My jaw hit the floor.

People can truly break your heart sometimes.

What I wanted to say to him is "you are 21 and have no idea what you want to do in your life. Your girlfriend is in 3rd senior year in high school and neither of you have a job. I may have paid for my baby but at least I could, how are you going to pay for yours?"

Sometimes, you just have to walk away.

I'm sorry many of you have had rude comments and unsupportive friends and relatives. I've had nothing but postive feedback from adults and a few rude comments from children(they were like 8 and 10 years old). Their parents quickly explained things to them.

My best friend's sister had her baby the same month my baby was born. When I got my referral, a month later she was so excited. She said, " I was hoping your baby would be born before mine and he was." She is in her 40's so maybe maturity does play a part in how people act.

I know when he finally comes home I will get rude comments from strangers now and again. Hopefully I will handle it as well as most of you seem to. I haven't completely decided how I will react ........I guess it will depend on my mood that day.

Or you could have been really nasty and said "yes I'm paying 25K for my adoption, how much is the society going to have to pay to raise your freebee!"

Ohhhhh.....I probably wouldn't even say that one. And I'll say almost anything.

I just tell people that I will get him before he goes to college and they laugh-it kinda breaks the ice and then they don't get hooked on a date.

I try to go with the belief that most people just do not think before words come flying out of their mouths. However, sometimes it's clear that people are just plain mean spirited.

My cousin's daughter had a baby a couple of weeks ago. She's 19 and her boyfriend is 19. Neither of them has a job and he didn't even graduate from high school. Yet, she felt compelled at one point to say "aren't you a little old to be getting a baby?". Now, I'm sure to her that 37 seems ancient, but I wanted to slap her to death. I started to explain myself then thought "what the hell am I doing explaining myself to her??" and just said "I think I'm the perfect age".

Maybe we should take all late teens and lock them up somewhere!

I'm 44-older than dirt, somebody said to me once.
Oh, well.. some people just think they are soo funny...
After teens are 18, they know it ALL and I mean ALL...
I just smile and think to myself..."we'll see what you think about that in about 10 years."
