Talking Yet, another FUN thread...First Word(s)

I thought it would be neat to see what everyone's child(ren) first word(s) were.

Daria is not talking yet she will be a year old next month and I am curious to see if her first word will be momma, dadda or ball, doggie, etc.

She knows what these words are but hasn't done anything but babble so far.

Thanks

My DD's first word: what else...

I was only with her all the time, but DADA was the first word!

Then it was NO!

and MORE!

I like this thread!

My oldest daughter's first word was "baby," and she still loves babies.

My second daughter's first word was "candy! candy!" which she pronounced, "tandy! tandy!" (as taught by my older daughter, who hadn't even known what candy was at that same age).

My third son started with a sentence, "I love pop," (which he had maybe had once). He would still eat junk food all day if I would let him.

My youngest son, now 18 months, learned as about his fifth word, "Back-hoe!" (and he loves them, too.)

Do you think maybe there is a correlation between interest-level and first words? As in, what they like, they're motivated to learn to say?

Alec's first word was "kitty." For Daniel it was "MORE!" - first in spanish, than in english. Lauren's first word was "cracker," which still covers any kind of food.

Katy was saying "momma" when we picked her up, but it obviously wasn't directed at me. So, I say her official first word was "uh-oh" at about age 10 months. SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!

For both my boys I think Dada was first and then Mama. After that, my oldest said "shoe" - go figure! And the younger's first was "mine" - he learned that at Christmas time from his older brother!

I can't respond yet re our little guy - we don't know if he's talking yet but kinda doubt it. If he is, it's in spanish!

Our stand-in baby boy (15 m.o. son of our best buddies) started saying "woo woo" at under a year. We realized he wasn't babbling when he pointed at our dogs - he was saying "woof woof" so I don't know if that counts as a first word! It certainly had meaning and he used it consistently ( he still calls dogs "woo woo").

He shortly after that said "ish" and pointed at the fish in the aquarium.

Maybe he'll be veterinarian or a zoologist.

We're looking forward to finding out soon, firsthand, how much our son is babbling and what he might be trying to say. Can't wait!!!

first word

I think (though I'm not 100 percent sure, so perhaps one day she'll tell me)....But I think Addison's first word is just "HI"! And she does it with such exuberance. It's a little off still, but she is working on perfecting it. If you leave a room and then come back, she shouts it at you! If she sees people in a store, mall, outside, anywhere..she throws her hand up in a big wave and shouts "AAHHH!!" which is often her version of HI!

She yells out the window at the door for our neighbor's dog, a little yorkie, something to the effect of "DAY-EEEEE"....the dog's name is DAISY!! LOL!

OH AND SHE ALSO BARKS...does that count!? It's got to be worth something. Some points there, I hope! It's just hysterical. She does this really high-pitched woof, woof, woof, and then looks around for the doggie. We don't have one, so I hope she's happy with books, movies, and the neighbor's pets. LOL!

She babbles CONSTANTLY and has gotten her V sound down quite well, she says VA VA VA....and I keep waiting for the VOOM!! hehehe!

Wouldn't you think after the millions and millions of times I have said MAMA to her, she would get it!? LOL! All my friends say once she says it, she won't stop. LOL! Oh yeah, she says "DADA" quite well, and very clearly....but alas, that "DADA" won't get her very far in this single Mom world! LOL!

Jen
and the very babbly girl, Addison Grace!

Sophia's first was dada at about 10 months, now she says mama, dog (alot, in fact any four legged animal is a dog), also bird but she says dub...strange.

She really loves our dog, but you can tell we must lecture him alot because sometimes she has this tone when she is saying dog, dog, dog, like she is trying to tell him what to do, it is very funny!

Jen, that is true about saying Mama to Daria over and over again. I think she would purposely not say it just because. LOL

We live in Louisiana and both went to LSU. Mary Lynn started talking in the middle of football season so her first word was "Tida" (Tiger) what else? She won my husband's heart forever with that one (as if she hadn't already!!)
My son Rhory pointed to the baby on the baby food jar and said, "daydee" when he was 8 months old. He hasn't shut up since!

My now-8 mo. old daughter said "da-da" when she was 7 mos. old. However, since I am a single mom, we have no da-da & I'm not actually counting that as a "word", but just sounds. Just yesterday, she meowed back at the cat a couple times -- not really the word "meow", but more like a high-pitched "ee-yah" which mimicked the cat perfectly. But, geez, I kinda don't want to count that either . . .

Boni, hoping my kid will say something I actually WANT to count as her first word!

Anna's first word at 9 months was 'cat'. Followed by 'kitty', 'Bub' (our cat) and weeks later 'mama'.

Shows where I rank in the interest scale!
