Has anybody obtained an "adoption" airfare on Delta recently? I was just dinking around with reservations, anticipating traveling in mid- to late June, and it's looking pretty scary if we try to book our flights on short notice. We fly out of Atlanta, so Delta is the best choice (nonstop!), but that flight gets pretty full. It was overbooked when we visited in April.

At what point after exiting PGN did you book your flight? I'm so used to booking way in advance and getting non-refundable tix...it's kinda freaking me out thinking about waiting until we get pink to book our flights, but I'm afraid to book them earlier in case something goes awry.

I talked to a Delta rep a few weeks ago regarding their Adoption fare. The Adoption fare is a little higher than if you book 2-3 weeks in advance, but the advantage is that you can book on short notice, and can also change your flight arrangements without paying extra money (i.e. it is unrestricted).

Of course, this doesn't help you if the flights are full - but it is nice to be able to change the flight plans without paying the $100 to change dates (I think that's what they charge to change the dates for non-refundable tickets).

We are still in PGN, but once we get out, I think I'm going to book our tickets for 3 weeks out, and then just try to change them if I need to.

I think I booked 3 days before I left. I happened to find a flight for $394. from phila. It was Continental. I inquired Delta adoption fare and it was about $100. more. I believe to change the Continental flight was a $100. fee. So the adoption fair for me was not a help. When the time comes check out every option you will find the dlight you want. I think Delta only leaves Guatemalain the afternoon. I may be wrong with that. Continental had a 8 am flight out. Since my flight was longer I wanted to leave early.
