HELP!! Agency won't start 2nd adoption
His words were, Why don't you wait until we finish this one first.
We are in process and I want to start number 2. Our 171h approval says approved for 2. Our hs approved us for 2 under 18 months. I don't want my fingerprints to expire. We just received our 171h in feb. Whats the problem? Agency mentioned calling <ins and asking them to keep file open! How do I do that and if we get moving the file won't be closed. Can anyone give me a number at uscis boston to get a live person?? Or any advice. why is this so difficult. very frustrated!!

I can't helps with the USCIS question, but as for being told to wait...Some placement agencies have requirements that there be at least a certain number of months in between the adoption/birth of a child and the beginning of the process to adopt a second child. This is regardless of what the homestudy or USCIS approvals are for. (Our placement agency requires 6 months before starting a new referral. They make exceptions for keeping biosiblings together.)
The reason for this is that in their experience with adoptions they think it is in the best interests of the children to wait, due to transition issues. So your agency's response is not that unusual. Certainly, there are agencies that don't have such a requirement. You could look into using a different placement agency if you really wanted. Best wishes, Devora

If you feel comfortable doing it on your own, why don't you see if your attorney can get you another referral? Do you have the contact info for the attorney in Guatemala? You might try asking him to help you.
Just my opinion. Good luck. Lisa

I'm sure they have what they think to be valid reasons but families adopt 2 children simultaneously and I don't see what the principle difference would be. Hmmmmm,.....

first he questioned my having approval for 2. When <i told him we did, he said i need to double check with uscis. This agency does allow 2 children so i put in a call to the director, hopefully she'll know. sounds like coordinator doesn't have a clue.

Good idea to speak with director. My agency and the independant SW suggested requesting 2 on the I600A because they said "you never know, and at least this way you're prepared".
Be firm and get your way if this is really what you want. It's not uncommon.

Just so you know, we adopted two at one time, unrelated and they came home at the same time. We put 2 on our I600A for the same reason Steph said "you never know." We had no intention of adopting more than one child and our agency contacted us because our attorney had a second child available and he could place them in the same foster care. We had no idea what to do and were really caught off guard... now we have two precious daughters asleep in their beds and would have it no other way. Good idea on checking with your director... I hope you get positive answers soon!
