First Homestudy Appt

DH and I have our first homestudy appt tonight and I am extremely nervous. To make matters worse, DH is remarkably calm. Any advice or tips to help me stay calm????

Hi there.
Everybody is nervous the first time. But once it starts, it really is more fun than you think it will be. You learn a lot about yourself and your DH. You think it is going to be someone coming in to grill you on weather you will be a fit parent or not. If your house is perfect. But it really is not that way at all! We have had 2 homestudies and have enjoyed both of them. You get to talk all about how excited you are to add to your family, how great your life is, what all your parenting ideas are. the case worker just listens because she is interested in your ideas and needs to get to know you so she can write a report about your loving house! ( and it is her job) It is also much more casual than I thought it would be. It feels like sitting down for a cup of coffee with a new friend as you get to know each other.

I know everyone says this, but the best thing you can do is relax and be yourself. good luck MoMo

You will do fine. With our home visit the only thing we were missing was a fire ext. so we went and bought one because those are good to have around anyways.

Keep in mind, these are people who WANT TO place children. Keep thinking it, over and over.

It'll go great!

Isn't that the worst when you are all wound up and your DH is calm as can be???? That's been my situation ever since we started the adoption process!! How can my DH be so calm about this stuff????? Seriously, the homestudy was nowhere near as bad as I expected .... our social worker was REALLY nice and we basically just chatted most of the time. She gave us lots of advice about bonding and issues when the baby comes home and we also spent some time just talking about cats!! It was a lot more like just sitting down and chatting with a friend than the interrogation that I was expecting!! Good luck to you!!!

Be calm and relax too!

I read here and we just followed the instructions. Think that you are going to have a really good conversation with a friend that you haven't seen from a long time want to tell everything about you, your DH, your relationship, etc...

It is really easy. We had our last Saturday and this Saturday is the last one!

Good luck and many blessings,

Thanks to everyone who replied. You all were right - it was much easier than I anticipated. Everything went well and our final appt is scheduled for next Wed. I think I'll be much calmer then.
