Showered too early!

I'm so upset right now. We have been in PGN since Dec. 10. My baby shower was early December. I loved all of the clothes I got, but none of them are going to fit. If they fit, they are for the wrong season. I don't have the heart to take these outfits out of the closet. I get so angry when I think about it. How silly is this? These little things are starting to get to me. Anyone else with these feelings?
By the way, I'm adopting a boy and girl. They will be 7 months old on the 9th of April.

Sorry to ramble. I really hope someone can talk some sense into me.

Thanks, evaughn

I am sorry you have had to wait so long! I have been in PGN since Jan. 13 and am going crazy! I have had people ask to have a shower for me but I want to wait until I know that I am going to get her. I hope that I don't have to wait for months in the CR as well!! I hope you get your children soon. I will pray for you.

I hear you

I had family and friends throw one shower at the end of Feb. and co-workers threw a shower last week. No one ever approached me. I would have asked people not to plan anything until we are out of PGN. Then I would not have minded... But anyway, it's hard to complain. I know people are just trying to be nice. I too get scared that we'll have a closet full of 6-9 month stuff for the spring and summer and no baby to use it.

We feel the same way. It really hurts to look at all of the cute little outfits, and realize that Hannah is going to be too big for them by the time she comes home. (She is 8 months old next Tuesday.) We had really thought that she was going to be home by the end of February, but I guess God has a different plan for us. Still, it is so hard having all of the baby "stuff" and no baby

I know the waiting is very hard, hopefully you will hear something very soon. Maybe you can return some of those clothes for bigger sizes. I had to return some things and it was fun picking out new stuff.

baby stuff

I've had friends and family beating down my door wanting to throw a shower and I've insisted that they wait until the baby's home. I'm a big believer in Murphys' Law - I figure the more ready I am for her, the longer it'll take to get her.

Maybe you could donate some of those clothes to orphanages or foster homes in Guatemala for the younger babies. They would be going to a good cause and you wouldn't have to look at them anymore.

I am sorry that you are feeling down and out. Hopefully soon you will get some good news and you can go get your babies. My baby girl was 9 1/2 months when we brought her home. She is now 13 months and can still fit in some of her 6-9 month clothes. She exceeds the weight limit, but she is so short that the outfits still fit her. So, some of the clothes may still fit. I hope you get to bring your babies home soon. Hope this makes you feel a little better. Have a good day!

First, it is definetly not silly. That wait in PGN is SO hard. And seeing those clothes hanging there and knowing your children are outgrowing them without ever wearing them stinks. You never know. They might fit. Do you know how big your children are? At 15 months old, my daughter is still in 6-9 month pants and just venturing into 12 month tops (mostly to get them over her belly!) And my son who is 22 months is still fitting easily into 18 month clothes. So many things that I thought they would never wear will get used, just not the year I would have expected.
Hang in there!

HI,
I know what you are feeling. I was given my shower, a week before I came out of PGN. Now, with this whole Civil Registry/Birth Certificate mess-I think I am going to be returning alot of clothes.

I completely understand your pain as well. With our 1st adoption, we got our referral in Jan (2003), entered PGN in May so that is when my friends and family gave me a baby shower. We felt sure she would be home in June or July. Well, the Hague came which basically shut down all adoptions in Guatemala and Elia did not come home until Nov! We had tons of things to take back. In fact, I got banned from returning things to Target for a year because I had returned so many things. I do have a bit of advice for you. Why don't you wait until you are out of PGN, then take everything back and go on a shopping spree!!! I ended up having a lot of fun returning things and buying new clothes for the right season and size. Good luck!

Shower

Hold off on returning alot. I was shocked when we went to get our daughter. I brough 3-6 months clothes with me (she was 3 1/2 months old) and I had to call my Mom from Gautemala and tell her to go and buy lots of newborn clothes as nothing fit her! She is 10 1/2 months old and still wearing her 3-6 month clothes with no signs of outgrowing them in the future. In fact last week my dear friend CMG posted a picture of my girl and she had on the same little outfit she wore for her birth announcements.

It is definitely frustrating to sit by while they outgrow all of the stuff you have for them! I do agree, however, that you might be surprised about which items fit your babies.

We just got back from visiting our 7 m.o. and we took both 3-6 month and 6-9 month clothes. Some items in both categories fit. Anything with feet in it required the larger size (he's got long legs), but all of the onesies and separates fit.

We left the 3-6 month clothes with the foster mom (except for the dirty ones) so that she can keep them for future foster babies.

We've asked family members to only buy clothing 12 months or larger.

We've got all kinds of toys that may be too young developmentally for our little guy when he gets here. We'll see. Maybe he'll enjoy them for a week or two.

Thank you all so much for your posts! It is wonderful to know that I'm not so crazy after all. I love the forums!!

Roxanne-Thank you for the prayers. Please know you are in mine. My case manager suggested to me to have a shower after we get a referral. We got our referral in Sept. I jumped the gun. I had been dreaming of my baby shower for 5 years. Now I could just kick myself. I hope you will have an amazing shower very soon!

Janet- I hope you had fun at your showers. It's nice to have people care so much about us. My case manager e-mailed me today and said the new PGN is signing and our attorney is very excited about that. So hopefully, you won't have my problem.

Shelly and Ed-I keep trying to remind myself that God has a plan for us. It's still so hard. You are both in my prayers. Maybe we'll be able to bring our kiddos home at the same time!

Allison-I think you're right about that. Any excuse to go shopping, right?

Maria-I never even thought about Murphy's Law. I have been buying things for 5 years now. Boy, did that come back on me or what? I think donating the clothes is wonderful advice. I thought about taking them down with me on the pick up trip (whenever that might be). I figured they need them more than I do. Maybe that was God's plan!

Kim-You have a tiny baby!! Let's hope mine are the same way. I also hope they are cold natured so they can wear the cute sweaters I bought for them. I'm not counting on that, though.

Debbie-My kids are: Boy-17lbs. Girl-14lbs this was at their 6 month checkup. Your children give me some hope! I can only imagine how cute your daughter's belly is!!

lovelivvy-I dread the CR mess. I have been wanting out of the PGN so bad, I haven't even thought of that wait. My prayers are with you!!

Ronita-Bless your heart. You've been in too long. Isn't it awful? Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Jenny-Great advice!! I have been warned by Target. I took some things back twice now, and got a talking to. Why haven't I even thought of waiting. That shopping spree would be cool!!

Thank you all for everything!
Kerri

Kellymigoya-I think we were posting at the same time. You have such a tiny baby!! How much does she weigh?

Annee-I never even thought about the toys!! Oh no! I need to go through those. Oh well, another reason to go shopping. My church nursery can use those.

Thanks for you replies.

Kerri
