Guat City Hotel Reccomendations

We are going for our pick up trip (which is amazing!). What Hotel is the best place to stay all things considered (price is not really an issue. Just want to be comfortable and safe). Thanks

Karen

I would suggest the Westin or the Marriott. We stayed at the Westin -- it was centrally located, close to two malls, the restaurants were yummy, and the staff was great!

I have stayed at both the Westin and the Marriott. We are staying at the Marriott on our pick up trip.

I stayed at the Marriott 4 times and really liked it. No point of comparison, but I would definetly stay there again.

The Marriott
Get one of the bi-level suites, they are roomy and have great views.

Loved the Clarion Suites

Hello,

We only stayed at the Clarions Suites, and we loved it.
For about 85 dollars a night (that is with all taxes, etc) You get two rooms - two TV's, and a play area for others who are adopting. Also included is a full breakfast, and the staff couldn't be friendlier. They will pick you up at the airport, and have their own taxi service - who will take you were you need to go, and wait on you etc....
It is located in the business section, and we even ventured a block to an outdoor restaurant one evening with our new daughter.

Have fun and good luck!

I stayed at the Raddison for a visit in March. I don't have a comparison to other hotels in GC, but was very impressed with the "family floor" that has 2 room suites with a kitchenette (sink, bottle sterilizer, refrigerator, toaster) a crib, stroller, baby carrier/chair and baby bath tub. They only have 1 restaurant but the breakfast is included and the staff was really nice. What they do NOT have is a pool......

Marriot fans, how does it compare in terms of baby equipment?

I am a huge afn of La Casa Grande. It is more traditional Guatemalan and very small and quaint. I love the atmosphere and the staff could not be kinder or more willing to be sure your stay is perfect.

It is also right beside the embassy and very convenient. Love that hotel! Six times staying there are can't wait to return this summer.

No comparison, but we liked the Radisson. We had no choice as atty booked 3 couples at one place for his convenience (NOT a complaint!). But it was homey and staff were lovely and the kitchenette was nice, and VERY important to us. The food was very good too.

No comparison for me, but I've only been to the Westin, and am going back again in May for a visit trip. It was very comfortable, service-oriented, many amenities, and the Family Floor is particularly comfortable, with baby bathtub and toiletries, family playroom with fridge, microwave, high-chairs, and of course, the famous free CAFFE LATTE machine that is so near and dear to my heart! The staff at the restaurants, pool, room service, laundry, desk, etc., were also very helpful, and particularly nice to my Bebito! The poolside waiters doted on him, and at lunchtime, they'd bring me little "platitos" of beans and rice, and things he'd like to eat -- they were so cute with him!! Mama and Bebito LOVED the hot tub too (which is not a very hot or overheated hot tub, more like a bath temp, so you can bring a baby in), and he loved the pool too, it was even warm enough for me, the wussy old Mama who only likes warm pools!

(BTW, for anyone going to the Westin, you should NEVER pay more than $95 a night there for a typical room on the family floor...)

For the pick up strip, I recommend La Casa Grande as you can walk to the Embassy and its very small and Guatemalan. Its like staying at Grandma's house and the staff is excellent.

HI I really like the Grand Tiakal Futura. We stayed for visit and for p/u. They have a beautiful suite that they will upgrade you to for free if you ask. There is a shopping mall connedted to it as well which is handy. The staff are fabulous and will bend over backwards to help out in any situtation (even ording take-out food). I have also stayed at the Raddisson and wasn't really impressed.

We stayed at the Clarion Suites. We loved it. They had a shuttle waiting for us at the air port. The staff waited on us hand and foot. We were treated like royalty! The food was great and the rooms were excellent. We had a beautiful view of the city and the mountains. We could see the volcanos in the distance.
The rate was only $70.00 (US ) or less. The shuttle took us back to the airport on the morning we left. We felt very safe there. There is a pharmacy across the street and you can get any baby supplies you need there.

Good Luck!
