Noticed that nobody had responded so I thought I would let you know what I think happends. I did recieve a few medical records that had the results of testing that was done on our little one when he was born. Looking back at our medical it looks like he was tested for both HIV and Hep B. Both were negative. I would believe that those are things that agencies and lawyers would make sure were tested. Although, even though we had this, when we got home and did another batter of tests on our little guy (then 16 months) he did come up positive for Hep B. This has been very scary for us, and are still not so sure if it was a false positive or not. Just tested him again about a month after and he then came up negative. This is the test I am believing in, although once he has been home for six months they want to do it again to confirm either pos or neg. OK, so the sad part in our situation was that he did not get his shots that he needed in Guat. Hope this helps in some way. I'm sure other people have more intel. I would believe that if you are working with a great lawyer and agency you will get correct and thorough information on this. You should get medical info including these tests upon referral and then when you go for the pick up trip, you should get the shot records. Maybe now I am just paranoid, but I would recommend getting records of shots if possible as they happen in guatemala to make sure they are getting them. Just my two cents. Take care,

HIV is required. Most agencies provide HIV, Hepatitis, and VDRL.

glad you asked....
I am really glad you asked. My husband and I are just starting the process and I have to tell you that I have been worried to death about getting inaccurate test results. Maybe I am just worrying too much, but it is in the back of my mind. We will just have to pray and put all of our trust and faith in the Lord.

I would request the lab records upfront!!!!!!!!!
Do not ever just assume that it is routine.... There are MANY HIV POSITIVE B'Moms in Guat....More than we realize..... I have researched this extensively.... Good Luck - Jenn |

You say you have done lots of research on b'moms with HIV in Guat. Where did you get your information? I would be very interested in reading some of it myself. Thanks |

We had the results of the HIV 1 and HIV 2, VDRL and Hep. tests with the referral information and photos that we were sent.
I was so releived to see the blood work was OK. That was always my conern when thinking about our referral. Hope you get your information. I wouldn't have been able to accept a referral without it.
