best places to stay in GC for pick up? heard of hotel San Carlos?

Hi,
I am struggling to decide where to stay for my pick up. I was considering the Raddison or Marriott, both of which I have heard great things about. My adoption agency person is suggesting hotel San Carlos. Anyone heard of it?

It is right down the street from the Embassy. How critical is that? There is no climate control there and I am a little concerned about that after my visit to Antigua. I will be leaving in two weeks and trying to get this last detail figured out. Going crazy.

Please - any advice, or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

One other question you might want to consider is security. I am not familiar with the hotel in question, or any others, yet, just thought that, especially w/o climate control ...

Hi everyone!

Let me start by saying I wish I new about this web site way back in 2001. My daughter was one of the first through my agency and I had no reference points to know what was going on.

I have been to Guatemala City 2 times for 2 seperate adoptions. The first time I stayed at the Suites Reforma which was a stone throw from the embasy. The second time I stayed at the Marriott.

I would definately suggest the Marriott. There are lots of other parents and babies there to visit with. It is much better kept also. The suites reforma had no other parents. They did, however, have a kitchen which was a plus.

Hi there,

We visited our daughter twice before final pickup and stayed at the Mariott all three times. It was great. The best part is all the extra secure walkable space.(big lobby, covered sitting areas by the pool, gift shop, etc) Our child did not like to stay in the room much, so we had many places to stroll her around. The staff was great as well and there are many other families there as well who are adopting and it was so nice to meet them.

We stayed at La Casa Grande and LOVED it. Both trips there had to be at least 10-15 other adoptive families staying there. It was a wonderful experience!

thanks so much!!

Thank you to everyone who responded to my questions about where to stay. It is hard enough to make this trip with so many unknowns that it helps to have a little insight into something like where to stay!!!

Thanks everyone!!
