What do I need to do to protect used rolls of film, unused rolls, rolls of film still in the camera.
Also, what about the video camcorder and its tapes? And, is the digital camera safe to go through the xray? In other words, tell me what I need to know. I am clueless about this stuff and dh isn't sure either. Thanks, Stacey (13 days until our visit!!! Here we come Baby Matthew!!!) ![]()

We were told to pack our film. Our digital camera was fine going through in our carry ons. I hope that helps.

Do not pack your film. The new X-ray machines they now use for luggage are far worse than the ones they use in the security lines.
All film must be protected from x-rays especially ASA-400 and ASA-800. I have a small lead shielded bag that I put all my film in. Don’t trust them when they say the X-rays won’t fog the film, they will. Digital film is OK. When in doubt, let them hand check the stuff. |

Never pack your film in your suitcase. Always carry it with you.

I asked in the United States at the airport and they said it is best to have them hand check all film. If your digital camcorder uses a film digital cartridge---have them hand check. Your digital camera with a cf card should be fine going through in your carry on luggage. Absolutely do not check your film in your checked baggage!
Good luck! Patty

I was worried about this before we left too, and my plan was to have all my film hand checked instead of going through the machines. But when it came right down to it, the airports were so crazy and so many other things to worry about that it completely left my brain. We carried all our camera stuff on, and our film turned out just great.
Your camcorder will be fine, they make you take it out of the case and put in a separate bin when going through the security check.
