Clothing sizes the same as in US?

I've been buying clothes recently in prepration for our little ones coming home - too much fun!! Anyway, I'm mostly buying clothes for our toddler girly as I saved every shred of clothing from when ds was a baby, so I think our baby boy to be is covered in the clothing arena. I've been guessing at sizes based on the most recent weight and height measurements we got and I'm planning on asking our agency, right before we go on our pickup trip, to check on what size the children are actually wearing at that time. Here's my question - are infant and toddler clothing sizes in Guatemala the same as here in the US? If I'm told that our toddler is wearing a size 24 month, do you think I'm pretty safe buying that size to take with us? I'm just worried that I'll take the wrong size clothes - too big is OK, but what if they're too small? I guess I just need something new to obsess about as I start to get antsy about our PGN wait!!

In my experience my little girl now 7 months is fitting into 3-6 months and some 6-9. I strongly suggest going with the weight figure. I also love Carters clothing because they do a good job with weight. But to answer your question yes the clothing will most likely fit. They may be a little long in the pants but nothing that a little rolling up of the waist band won't fit. Have fun shopping. JCPenney online is having a great clearance sale of beautful dresses just bout 4 myself for later on this year.

My daughter is 12 months and in 9 month clothing. I almost always have to roll up her sleeves and pant legs. I don't know if you've checked out Hannaandersson.com, but they have some great zippered onesies (longsleeves, long pants). They are not cheap, but they are made to last long and sleeves and pant legs are cuffed so you can roll them up and down as the child grows. It is so much fun buying clothes!

Yes, clothing sizes are the same there as they are here. In most countries, however, there is only one size on the tag. For example, 6 months (instead of the usual American 3-6 months or 6-12 months). This would mean that that garment should fit baby at around 6 months of age. Typically my average-sized girls would fit a 6 months from about 4-7 months of age. Of course, sizes vary by brand more than by where they are made....

Well, I think most clothing is sized like U.S. sizing. however, we bought some clothing in Guat that was sized based on the age of our child -- and that was way off! For example, it's sized 0 for babies, 2 for 2 year olds, etc... Our son was in 18 month almost 24 month clothing at 11 months of age -- and the 2 sized clothing we bought in Guat is equivalent to 9 month clothing here.

I'd say, go by weight and length... Our son is very long, so even by weight he didn't fit most of the clothes we brought... And you'd rather have clothes be too big then too small, as were the clothes we brought.

Each time I visited, I bought clothes in two sizes for everything (shoes, too) and kept the tags on until I tried them on my daughter. She is older, so size was easier to guess, but I could never be sure that she hadn't had a growth spurt since our last visit. When we got home, we just got a refund on the clothes that were not the correct size (all at places like Target, Penny's etc.). This worked well for us and I'd suggest that you bring a few items in two sizes, especially given that toddler clothes won't take up that much room (they're so darn tiny and adorable!).

what gives you the idea AMERICAN sizes are standardized?

I go nuts buying stuff -- my dd wears anything from 18 mo to 3T, depending on the brand ... and women's clothing ... well, we won;t go THERE! They are making them smaller and smaller, these days ...
