Need support - Adoptee becoming an Adoptive Parent
Hello, everyone,
I am very new to these boards, and I am looking for a lot of advice. We would like to adopt 2 babies/toddlers from Guatemala. I go for my physical tomorrow. My husband got his physical on Friday. We are working on completing this stack of paperwork. Then we will wait on getting a homestudy. What goes into a homestudy anyway??? What is it like? Being an adoptee myself, I would really love to adopt two children/babies at once. Is this common??? I just really need support and people to talk to. I read the post on agencies people have used and no one posted any info on the agency I am planning on using. I am worried that maybe I should switch to a different agency before we get too involved. Any words of wisdom is much appreciated... KD |

Congratulations on your decision to adopt!
To answer your questions: 1. It is possible to adopt two children at once...many people do! 2. I'm not sure why you are working on the paperwork before starting the home study? The Home Study and INS approval are the two most important parts of the process...and the two that take the longest...so get busy on those!! The Home Study process can be really wonderful if you have a good social worker. She will discuss your motivations for adoption, your family background, your present life circumstances...and hopefully will approve you to adopt two children! 3. Using an agency no one has ever used might not be a good idea....you should DEFINITELY get lots of feedback on any agency you choose to work with. In Guatemala whether you have a successful and quick adoption depends almost entirely upon who you are working with...so do your research! Good Luck and again congratulations!

KD, congratulations on your decision and welcome to the forum!
We are adopting two children at one time, one baby and one toddler so feel free to PM me anytime you need support. I agree with Becky that your homestudy and I-600 should be underway before anything else. They take alot of time and they are the basis for the whole adoption, your approval from a social worker and INS. There are many wonderful agencies out there, so do your research. Best wishes as you begin your journey... we are all here for you!

I just wanted to post a big hello and welcome to the board! I am also an adoptee and an adoptive mom. My girls are still very young, but I know that I will always have a special bond with them because we were all born into our family the same way. I'd love to try to answer any questions you have. Feel free to private message me if you'd like.
