? for those of you home

I have an interesting question for you to help all of use PGN waiters out.
What is the one thing you didn't bring on the pick up trip you wish you did?

Immodium!!! LOL! Actually, I am serious about that. I got sick on 2 out of 3 trips to Guatemala, and I mean very SICK! I will never forget the day we were bringing Elia home! We woke up early that morning to catch our plane, and I was so sick! Of course, the hotel gift shop was not open and neither were any of the drug stores nearby. I do not use restrooms on planes so I had to solve my problem before I got on the plane. Luckily, the gift shop opened right when we were walking out of the hotel so I was able to get some Immodium. It was a day I will never forget for many reasons! Jenny

If anything, I brought too much. In my defense, I went down without pink in hand so I didn't know how long I would be there. Pink was issued the day I was traveling, so it turned out it was less than a week. But, I did bring too many clothes for both me and my daughter (although if I had stayed 10 days or more I might have had just the right amount).

I suppose I would have liked to have one more blanket. I took 3, but I was saving one for the plane ride back. I found that the blankets got rather dirty quickly just because I used them for everything (setting her on a blanket on the pool chairs, wiping up spills). It was a good idea to keep one clean for the trip home.

A calculator or chart or something to figure out quetzals to dollar conversions.

It's hard to think with new baby in toe and figuring out who to buy for in the family, etc.

this is a great thread...

Would you just keep a bag of pencils and such trinkets with you while walking in the street?

This is a very helpful and valuable thread at just the right time for me!

Thanks,
dcsmnl

I wish I would have remembered to pack extra clothes for dh and myself in our carry-on. We were bumped from our flight from Dallas to home and altho I had packed 2 extra outfits for Abigail,(thank goodness as we had an "up-the-backer" on the plane), I did not for us and it was no fun being in the same clothes for 36 hours! When we did arrive - I was thrilled to be home - but all I really wanted to do was take a shower and change my clothes. We also had taken plenty of snacks with us and that was a great help.

Good Luck,

For us it was also medicine, I took things for our daughter, but didn't take anything but Tylenol for us and we all came down with a terrible virus and I so wanted my anti-nausea medicine that was sitting in my medicine cabinet at home.

Those were the things that we needed the most, I also agree with the little trinkets to give out to the street kids, I wanted to bring all of those kids home with me.

They walk around selling things and DH would either just give them money or buy the thing from them and then give it to another street child that we would meet while walking.

Best wishes and hope that your wait isn't too much longer.

I just printed off a currency converter pocket chart and kept that with me. It went from Q-Dollars and the other side was Dollars to Q. I guess I could post it.

Cool overnight diaper

I wish that I would have packed a couple of the overnight diapers that are thicker. I hate to change on the plane and by the time I landed in Houston, it was a mess.

The overnights would have really helped on that segment of the trip!
