Fun Adoption Shower Games!
O.K., Are you planning a shower? A very dear friend (who may or may not come forward claim authorship) and I came up with some fun games to play in place of the traditional ones. It may confuse the guests, but will also educate them. Please add your game ideas.
1. What was the DNA match percentage? 2. Name the date of PGN in and out. 3. How long does it take to get a document certified? 4. Fedex envelope stuffing and form completion race. 5. Fingerprint taking accuracy and examination, (how many times do you have to swipe with alcohol to get a clear read?) 6. Name your Post Master! (we all know ours!) 7. Guess how many calls it takes to get an update. 8. Name the top ten reasons for kick outs. 9. Guess the most popular stupid question to be asked by a "well meaning friend." 10. Run to the mailbox race. How fast can you go? 11. How many hours has the mom-to-be sat at the computer, obssessing over timelines? 12. Translate, "I can't take this anymore" into Spanish. Plus, I still think you should play the "guess the mom-to-be's waist measurement" just for fun! Please, join in!

This cracked me up... You and your friend have a great sense of humor! When adoption stuff goes crazy, it's better to laugh then cry...
I have to say, I am not a shower fan myself, but I would attend a shower with these fun games. Additions: Creative responses to "My, he/she looks/doesn't look like you" "How much did she cost?" "She/he is _so_ lucky"...I mean, I have some real responses, but I'd like to perfect some funny ones that would be acceptable for the kiddo to overhear... Pin the fedex label on to the map of closest fedex sites... Try to complete a fax call to Guatemala Watch Adoption Stories without crying...

My wife said to add these games:
1. Name your Sec. of State? 2. Guess the distance to the closest Fedex office. 3. Name the location of the Regional Guatemala Consulate office. 4. How much does it cost to fedex a document to a specific place overnight priorty mail? 5. Where is the closest Notary? And finally.......................................... (this one is mine) 6. What do the letters PGN stand for and spell it correctly!

These are FUN games! I have a few to add....
(This one could be a subset of Dana's #11): Guess how many times the adoptive parent clicked the refresh button to check that e-mail "one last time" on the days when we thought we would get that Visa Pre-approval e-mail? Who can convert dollars to quetzales the fastest? And this one is very near and dear to my heart...... Name the estimated timeframe to receive the I171h in the mailbox (after fingerprinting) for every USCIS office in the US.

These are great! I did something a little different for one shower game. I wrote up a short "story" of sorts about Guatemala, fun facts, information, etc. Then I read it aloud, and had a list of 20 or so questions people had to answer based on what they had just heard. They were not allowed to see the questions until the reading was over.
I was honestly very surprised and impressed at how intently people listened and how many answers everybody got correctly. My whole goal was to educate the shower attendees about the country our daughter was born in. A lot of people commented later that they enjoyed it, too! Tina
