US Passport and Certificate of Citizenship
Our son came home from Guatemala last summer. We have completed the readoption and have his name changed and a state issued birth certificate. We are now applying for a US Passport. We did not see him before the adoption was finalized so he entered the country as a legal immigrant not a US Citizen.
Do we need to send in the originals of all the adoption decrees from Guatemala? If so will we get them returned to us? What other paperwork do we send? Guatemala Birth Certificate New Birth Certificate Court documents from US and Guatemala Greencard? Any help would be appreciated. It has been a while since we applied for our older child's passport. Speaking of which, we applied for our five year olds Certificate of Citizenship last summer and have yet to recieve it. Has anyone else waited over 12 months? I recieved a letter last summer saying it would take up to 12 months but I was just wondering if I should start getting worried if it goes beyond this time frame. Thanks for your help! Jackie |
