spanish first words
So what words do Spanish speaking children typically learn to say first, other than mama and dada? I have been listening for our little one to say some words in spanish, but I'm not what you'd consider fluent. She says "tiga" all the time, but I think that's just baby babble!

It's kinda strange, because it depends on the family, i.e. I'm from Puerto Rico so we speak some spanish (I'm fully bilingual) and my oldest daughter's first word in spanish was shoe (zapato) its mostly the same words English speaking babies would. LIke dog, cat, baby, bottle, pacifier, car.... etc. it's just in spanish. If you want to know those words in spanish or if you want a list let me know and I can tell you the words you want.

In my home we are completely bilingual, my kids spoke alot of spanenglish if you know what I mean.
From my experience I would say, "tiga" might be the baby saying "mira" which is spanish for look. Just a guess. Good Luck Lisa

HI Tina,
I'm posting this reply after one year of yours but maybe you get to read it. I'm from Puerto Rico and what is usual here is that a baby's first words are mamá and papá. I would say that what your little girl wants to say is Tina, your name, because thats the word she hear other people calling you. She's little and she can't articulate well and all she can say is Tiga. Just an idea. |
