I have seen a lot of questions recently on how to resize/post pictures to thread. So I thought maybe a short guide might help.

Resizing pictures.

The easiest way to do this is to use the “freeware” program called InfanView. InfanView can be downloaded from http://www.IrfanView.com . Just follow the instructions to download. Launch the program once it is loaded on your PC.

Step 1 – Open the picture you want to resize.
a) Click on “File”
b) Click on “Open”
c) Choose your picture then click “Open”. You should now see your picture.
Step 2 - Time to resize.
a) Click on “Image”
b) Click on “Resize/Resample”
c) On the right upper side of this box you will see “Some standard Dimensions”: Click on 640 x 480 (Good size for posting.)
d) Then click on OK (found at the bottom of the box) Now your picture is resized to an acceptable size.
Step 3 – Save the image.
a) Click on “File”
b) Click on “Save as” Note: Make sure you use one of the acceptable file formats: gif jpg png txt bmp jpeg
c) Rename your picture. Now you are ready to upload it into your thread.
Step 4 – Uploading picture
a) After you are done writing your message scroll down to “Attach file”.
b) Click “Browse” and find your picture. Open the picture then click “OK”.
c) Then submit your thread.

You seem to be knowledgeable about photos. Do you have any idea why I cannot view 99% of the photos on this website? The ones that have an icon I can click on I can see but the vast majority I can't view.

Any help you can offer would be great.

I did follow the instructions, and it did resize the pictures, but when I tried to attach the picture, I was still told it was too big!

Oh well.

Catie - are you trying to post the little picture for your avatar? Because those have to be 80X80 I think. If you are posting to a thread it should be OK if you make it 640 x 480.

Another aption for the resizing. If you search for WIndows Power Tools (assuming of course you are a MS Windows user) there is one called Image Resize Power Tool. When you install it, you can right click on any picture and you have a new option to resize. Click it and you are presented a VERY simple menu with three default resolutions (640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768) and a custom option. Very quick and easy!
